"50% battle-ready": Germany misses military targets despite Scholz's overhaul

BERLIN (Reuters) - The German army's battle-readiness is less than when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, military officials, lawmakers and defence experts told Reuters.

Even if a new government boosts defence spending, it will remain hamstrung for years, particularly by a lack of air defence, artillery and soldiers, they said.

"Before Russia's invasion of Ukraine, we had eight brigades at around 65% readiness," Colonel Andre Wuestner, head of the German Armed Forces Association, told Reuters in an interview. Sending weapons, ammunition and equipment to Ukraine, as well as accelerating Germany's own drills, took a toll on the available equipment, he said.

"Together, this means the German land forces are down to a readiness of around 50%," he said.

Berlin has failed to fully equip troops for a division for NATO by the start of this year, and in any case has no air defences to support them, the sources said.

Germany cannot even muster a single division.

We can no longer enable this dysfunction.

We MUST withdraw from NATO and leave these parasites to their fate.

NATO is the bodyguard standing next to the woke/globalist/neo-commie nurses, as they administer the death-injection to Western EU and Christian culture.

--- "We can no longer enable this dysfunction."

Dysfunction it is. When Ursula von der Leyen was Defense Minister in Germany, before climbing her way into the EU Commission catbird seat, oversaw a military in which, for some military games, troops had to use broomsticks to mimic weapons.

Germany 'Can't Explain' Use of Broomsticks Instead of Guns in NATO Exercise Newsweek, 19 February 2015.
This WAS Germany as NATO partner ten years ago. Think they have made much advance since then?

Our German friends don't want to see their troops in Ukraine, no matter how noisy the outgoing government is.

The EU has absolutely NO REASON to invest in or have any Mil units @ 100% as long as they (correctly) believe the US will pay for and provide 100% of their defense.

The US should keep those bases in place. But pull the troops and material.

Maybe only have one active in the EU to rotate in and out of middle east.

Back in 2015 the German army was caught using painted broomsticks on their armored vehicles in place of machine guns.

I wonder if they have since produced enough machine guns. The Germans are quite clever. So instead, maybe they’ve developed lethal broomsticks.
🤔

If the USA withdrawals for NATO all that will be left are perfumed European princes and dancing fairies in camouflage.

NATO exist only because the USA is part of it.

I don’t want us to be in Europe, and I don’t want us to be in the Middle East. Bring everybody home.

Russia would be the least of my worries as they got more than plenty on their plate. I would be more concerned about a cheap or at least reasonable priced plentiful supply of energy as without it the economy will go down the drain. And so far Russia would still be a reliable supplier as it has been in the past.

Right. It’s not 1945 anymore. Europe is wealthy enough to defend itself.

As to the Middle East, any involvement there makes mission creep almost guaranteed. A limited commitment could easily turn into a full-scale one.

Just like with Vietnam.

For all the complaining about Orban and now Fico, the best ally Russia has ever had inside NATO was always the SPD.

Europe has the potential to be something.

They have good food, and that is all they want.

the dirty little secret NATO and Us politicians with the help of the MSM and google are hiding is that the reason Russia sent a security force in to protect it's interests in Ukraine is because Germany and others in EU owe Russia over 300 billion from gas sales through Ukraine and refused to pay ( Hunter and Joe Biden were also involved in the looting).

Russia went to court and only got awarded 30 billion and Ukraine even refused to pay that

So Russia pulled the plug and sent troops to hold territories it built and turned over peacefully. Russia is not going in trying to take over Ukraine and is very careful NOT to cause collateral damage

You will not get this version of the story in "western media", only that "evil russia attacked ukraine"

Germany invited a complete invasion force of muslims and Africans. Germany is already conquered.
