Mark Zuckerberg has laid off 3,600 staff at Meta in a shock culling spree designed to target 'low performing' staff.
But impacted employees are coming forward to challenge the perception that Zuckerberg simply wanted to cut the dead weight, insisting that excuse was a 'corporate facade.'
'This wasn't about performance; it was about workforce reduction in favor of AI initiatives,' former Meta content manager Kaila Curry said.
'Maybe I ''lacked masculine energy'' (to quote Mark Zuckerberg himself). Who knows?'
Curry said she received an 'exceeds expectations' result in her most recent mid-year review. 'I was always told I was doing a good job.
'I was never placed on a PIP, never given corrective feedback, never properly mentored or provided clear expectations. I simply put in the work - often on weekends - while being isolated in an empty office.'
In mid-January, Zuckerberg announced plans to 'raise the bar on performance management and move out low performers faster.'
In all, he hoped to wipe out about five per cent of his workforce.
'We typically manage out people who aren't meeting expectations over the course of a year,' he said in an internal memo seen by Bloomberg.
'But now we're going to do more extensive performance-based cuts during this cycle.'
Meta product designer Steven S. shared his own experience of being let go in the cuts on LinkedIn.
'I was let go today - but not because I was a 'Low Performer',' he said.
'This morning, I found out I was part of Meta's latest round of layoffs - one of the 5% of employees impacted across the company.
'You've probably also seen how leadership is framing this: a move to 'raise the bar' by cutting so-called 'low performers.'
'That label is misleading, and for many of us, it's flat-out wrong.'

And easier to fire them, as you don't even have to evict them from the office.
By having to work from home, it made all the employees the same, whether they worked from home in America or Bangladesh. They lost their value completely as people.
“”never properly mentored””
Self starters mentor themselves
Well, one, the boss sets the rules. Those are not hungry employees. They are bon bon eating pains in the ass.
>> But impacted employees are coming forward... insisting that excuse was a ‘corporate facade.’
... as impacted employees have done in every layoff, ever...
>> They are bon bon eating pains in the ass.
It’s really, really hard to feel sorry for facefook employees.
I never expect Zuckerberg tp do anything good, nice or fair for his employees. He’s just a nasty guy.
I have a Facebook page and never look at I except to occasionally post to a friend of mine in Italy. I have zero interest in “friends” I don’t know. But a friend of mine married a man she met there. Nice guy, actually nicer than she is
>> Self starters mentor themselves
^^^^^^^^ Yep. This. ^^^^^^^^
Interestingly, this concept shows up in many life situations. I hear people complain about churches, for example. “I attended worship there... and I might as well have been invisible! No one sucked up to me as a newbie etc etc”. I have never had that problem because I never expected to be sucked up to as a newbie. I came with an attitude of getting to know the congregants and learning how I might fit in and contribute.
They ought to be able to find a compliant federal judge to put a hold on this.
Learn to turn a wrench! Oh, did I say that out loud?
>> They ought to be able to find a compliant federal judge to put a hold on this.
Well, we DO seem to have an oversupply of compliant progressive federal judges!
>> Oh, did I say that out loud?
ROFL! And I guess “learn to code” doesn’t really apply to Facefook employees!
Nope. Well, maybe.
Expect more of this with AI.
A LOT more.
And it will spread to any other industry that does NOT require turning a wrench.
Lawyers next?
Accountants and spread sheet shufflers are on borrowed time.
Been there, done that. The age-old explanation (as is the case here) is "We are moving in a different direction and your skills aren't required (or aren't relevant) any more."
I'm always surprised that people are surprised by that. Maybe Curry is under 30 (or 40) and doesn't know how the world works yet. Nobody owes you a living, businesses change, business climates change, companies change direction. One day you're a hero and well paid, the next day you're on your keister on the street wondering "what just happened?" If you work in high-tech, it WILL happen to you.
Goddamn Zuck, that Sweet Baby Ray’s is chock full of Masculine Energy. That stuff will put hair on your chest.
It’s his company; if he wants to cut the workforce, that’s his business.
Where’s a federal judge to tell him he can’t fire his employees?
I would suggest that they "learn to code", but ... er ...
Well, if they knew how to code, they might not have been laid off.
