Sen. Nicole Mitchell faces second felony charge . ( Minnesota )

An amended complaint says police officers discovered a crowbar at the scene. "My God, my military retirement. Shoot," Mitchell said, according to the complaint.

Prosecutors filed an amended criminal complaint Monday charging Minnesota Sen. Nicole Mitchell with a second felony.

Mitchell, a first-term Democrat from Woodbury, was initially charged with first-degree burglary last April after she allegedly broke into her stepmother’s Detroit Lakes home before dawn.

Now, prosecutors have added a second felony charge of possessing burglary or theft tools. The amended complaint says police officers discovered a crowbar in the window well where Mitchell allegedly broke in. Mitchell was dressed in all black and in possession of a flashlight with a black sock covering the light, according to the complaint.

The amended complaint also provides new details on comments Mitchell reportedly made during the incident.

“My God my military retirement. Shoot,” she said after being placed under arrest, according to the complaint.

“I have never done anything like this. You are going to find out I am a military commander for God’s sake,” she added, the complaint says.

Mitchell reportedly told police that she was attempting to retrieve some of her late father’s belongings and that her stepmother wasn’t talking to her.

After being read her rights, Mitchell reportedly responded: “I’m just hoping, um, this mistake won’t completely f– up my life.”

While in the back seat of a squad car, Mitchell allegedly told an officer that she had “literally just gotten into the house” and “hadn’t had time to do anything.”

“Clearly I’m not good at this,” the complaint has her saying.

The complaint says police observed “faint pry marks” on the window where they believe Mitchell entered the home.

“The circus surrounding the Senate needs to stop,” Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson, R-East Grand Forks, said in a statement Monday.

“We have real business to attend to: balancing a budget, addressing fraud, and putting Minnesotans First. Senate Democrats need to demonstrate that they are serious about solving problems in a bipartisan manner and do the right thing: end the sideshow and let the voters pick a new senator.”

Mitchell was scheduled to go on trial starting in January, but a judge agreed to postpone the trial until after the legislative session. Her trial is now scheduled to begin June 16.

Mitchell pleaded not guilty to the burglary charge last August and has resisted calls to resign. She survived a motion to expel her from the Minnesota Senate last month.

"She survived a motion to expel her from the Minnesota Senate last month."

An example of professional courtesy among criminals.

She was once one of the, dare one say it, the cutest young ladies on all of cable TV. "Exspecially" when she seen in her snazzy USAF uniform.

Life goes on, though, for better or for "not better". Most unfortunate.

I looked up her pictures, and yes, very cute in that uniform.

What happened? An LTC in the USAF, seemingly quite happy. Then her face transforms into something not cute or happy and she’s a crook. It’s almost like the rat party is some form of virus where when a person is infected they turn pure evil.

I agree, that’s the question. I don’t know the answer to it, though I hear it happens quite often.

Maybe trump can pardon her. He’s dropped the charges for eric Adam’s and pardoned Rod Blagojevich. There is hope for this woman.

Why didn’t she pursue this via legal means? Its not like she couldn’t afford a decent lawyer as an O-5 in the USAF!

She was not unpleasant to look at, but makeup and age were factors in her appearance. I saw a couple of photos, and her makeup in public and professional settings was thick. Unlikely, she expected to be photographed that night and was not made up for the public. My mother used to say; that some men are getting rich, selling makeup to young girls to make them look older and sexy, then years later selling it to older women to make them look younger and sexy. Mom said it was the ultimate scam. As she was applying her makeup, lol.

Two things about makeup are that it cannot hide the true self that is inside, and women have to wash it off before going to bed. Ugly inside and makeup cannot hide it. The funny thing is that my daughter agrees with me on this.

This happens a lot after someone dies. If she was looking to retrieve old photos or items she gave her father that hold special meaning, that stuff could make going to court very expensive and time-consuming. Wanting that stuff can become an obsession.

I knew one person who drove up to the house in a U-haul and took what they wanted before anyone knew what had happened, then challenged the executor to prove they stole it. Most of the stuff was of little monetary value and was not pursued. Another situation involved jewelry and antiques that ended up in civil and criminal court.

When someone remarries and has older children from the previous marriage, the parent should give the children heirlooms and items from the previous marriage. Especially if a parent died. What may hold sentimental value to children of an earlier spouse may have material value to a step-mother or step-father.

When my grandmother died, several cousins raided the property and grabbed anything of value that they could carry out.

My brother-in-law was estranged from his siblings. When he passed my sister refused to notify them or even publish the obituary. His family had a history of raiding the homes of relatives during funerals.

Exactly...we locked my hubs sister and her 2 daughters out of his mothers house after they started removing items without permission...when she went to assisted living. God knows they had spent the orevious 30 years wrangling $$ from the parents (we saw old checkbook registers). Smartest thing we did.
