Donald Trump has said that his plan to “take over Gaza” would not include a right of return for the more than 2 million Palestinians that he has said have “no alternative” but to leave because of the destruction left by Israel’s military campaign.
The remarks are the latest effective endorsement of ethnic cleansing by the US president, who announced his plan last week during a summit with the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to the outrage of the Arab world and the surprise of even his closest aides.
In the interview with Fox’s Bret Baier, Trump said that he would “own” the Gaza Strip and declared it would be a “real estate development for the future”.
At the same time, he continued to endorse a plan for the Palestinians to be resettled in Egypt and Jordan, a plan that both countries have rejected and the region’s largest Arab states have declared is a non-starter.
Trump said he would build up to six new sites for Palestinians to live outside Gaza, in effect permanent refugee camps underwritten by the US president.
Asked if Palestinians would have the right to return to Gaza, Trump told Baier: “No, they wouldn’t, because they’re going to have much better housing.
“Could be five, six, could be two,” he said. “But we’ll build safe communities, a little bit away from where they are, where all of this danger is.
“In other words, I’m talking about building a permanent place for them because if they have to return now, it’ll be years before you could ever – it’s not habitable,” he said.

Can Congress just refuse to fund this?
can return and “right” to return are two different things
Gaza was always an overpopulated hell hole. Does anyone really want to return there in any case?
Trump is working Art of the Deal.
Yes they do turn on your TV they’re all going back (or were under the deal) even to destroyed neighbourhoods
I don’t like this idea either. I can only hope that he’s using this as a giant stick to get real concessions.
Trump is a smart guy. So I’m going to assume all this Gaza talk is just a massive head fake.
But if he’s serious, he’s making a huge mistake. “Not our circus, not our monkeys” as the old saying goes.
It could be but he’s repeated it so many times you need to take it at face value — for now
yeah, spreading these animals across the earth is not “awesome.” They need to stay in Crazytown, aka the middle east
I thought someone wanted to develop the land. I forget who.
So when Trump said citizens can return, he didn’t mean Palestinian citizens.
Everybody else can, but not Palis.
“We’ll let other countries develop parts of it. It’ll be beautiful. People can come from all over the world and live there.”
Read the “Art of the Deal” right?
Is that the only way this garbage makes sense?
I doubt we know what the real plan is.
GOLLY GEE!!
The **concern TROLLS** and people who aren’t capable or are unwilling to wade through the narrative engineered headlines and biased “reporting” are having a cow!!
SO, what else is new?
I SAW what Trump said, IN CONTEXT, and it was more than clear to me that what he was saying, in essence, is that “It wouldn’t be safe or desirable to have people living at a construction site - so it would be best for all involved to have them elsewhere for some period of time”.
OF COURSE those who only possess a few brain cells, have TDS or who are DemocRATS twist what he says into shapes that make pretzels look like they’re composed of straight lines.
RELAX, and if you’re capable, work on understanding the man’s meaning, not playing the game of freaking out at half-truths or no-truths WORD GAMES.
I thought someone wanted to develop the land. I forget who.

“Dubai on the Mediterranean”

This is just the maximalist initial negotiating position. Many Gazans will be allowed to return, if they renege allegiance to Hamas and accept Israel’s right to exist.
There is nothing wrong with friendly criticism
Funny since he’s not put a foot wrong in 3 weeks and the polls even say that from CBS no less!
That said on this the policy is not good and he’s repeating it to various outlets.
Obviously behind the scenes they’re developing some kind of reconstruction of Gaza policy which involves the U.S. to what extent I dont know.
Sounds like a Middle East version of Cabrini Green.
> “It wouldn’t be safe or desirable to have people living at a construction site - so it would be best for all involved to have them elsewhere for some period of time”. <
If that’s actually the case,
- Who will be paying for that construction?
It had better not be the American taxpayer.
- Who will be paying to move the Gaza residents elsewhere?
Again, it had better not be the American taxpayer.
- Who will be moving the Gaza residents who don’t want to move?
It had better not be American troops.
The whole idea is crazy. It only makes sense if Trump is working some kind of grand strategy, and this Gaza thing is just a bluff of sorts.
“In the meantime, I would own this,” Trump said of Gaza. “Think of it as a real estate development for the future. It would be a beautiful piece of land. No big money spent.”
President Trump is talking about moving Gazans out of the region while they go in to remove unexploded ordnance and booby-trapped buildings. They want to clear out the rubble and toxic waste, destroy the underground tunnels and regrade the land, and then build the cities back to modern standards.
The Gazan residents cannot live amongst the rubble with no electricity, water, goods and services, and infrastructure while this work is going on.
“Could be five, six, could be two,” he said. “But we’ll build safe communities, a little bit away from where they are, where all of this danger is.
President Trump is talking about keeping the Gazans away during Reconstruction. He's saying that the Gazan people will have better accommodations while their land is being rehabilitated than they would if were to return immediately.
This is where Trump makes clear that they ARE expected to return to Gaza. The "permanent place for them" is not the relocation camps but the ultimately rebuilt Gaza Strip. Trump says they cannot "return now" because the land is "not habitable" now. It may take years to reconstruct the area, but he expects the people to return once it's complete.
What President Trump is saying he "would own" is his pledge to see this done. Trump is promising the people of Gaza that they will get back a future they don't have now, where they can live in a modern city with schools, hospitals, jobs, businesses, utilities, etc., where they can be free to live their lives without the yoke of Hamas around their necks.
The Guardian is twisting everything around to make it appear that President Trump' is saying the exact opposite of what he really means.
