An early morning attempted armed robbery in Chicago's Homan Square neighborhood ended with an exchange of gunfire and one suspect dead after the victim, who had a FOID card and Concealed Carry License, fired shots, police said.
The incident took place around 5:18 a.m. in the 900 block of S. Homan, police said, when two unknown men approached the victim, a 28-year-old male.
The suspects displayed a firearm and announced a robbery, police said, and an exchange of gunfire ensued.
One of the suspects, a 42-year-old male, sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead on scene. The second suspect, a 20-year-old male, sustained a gunshot wound to the neck and was transported to a nearby hospital, police said. He was last listed in critical condition.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for an evaluation, police said. He was last listed in good condition.
Two weapons were recovered from the scene and detectives were investigating, police added.
Photos and video from the scene showed red police tape and several officers surrounding a large "Flood Brothers" garbage truck, which appeared to have been driven by the victim.
The company did not immediately return NBC Chicago's request for comment.
One and a half head shots. Good aim
One shot in the head. One shot in the neck. Despite the fact they were armed also.
Good shooting!
The perps chose.....poorly
The garbage man is armed. Think about it.
2 and 0. Not bad, but the good guy will probably be prosecuted for murder in the first degree. The fact the had a CCL shows intent to commit murder while collecting garbage.
At least we’ve determined the dead wasn’t worth garbage . . .
Why would thieves target a garbage truck? My guess is that the thieves didn’t give a crap. Target someone with a $10,000 diamond ring. Target some working guy with maybe $40 in his wallet.
It’s all the same to them. Predators without the slightest bit of impulse control.
Damned good shooting under duress! Put this guy in charge of LEO training.
...Chicago, no cops when you need one and even the garbage men are armed.
Garbage men cops, BRILLIANT!
That’s a shame.
“Attempted armed robbery in Homan Square ends with victim, a CCL holder, shooting suspects”
Of all people, you’d think that the people in Chicago would know enough not to mess with Homan.
This attempted robbery occurred a little over one hundred feet north of a large police facility which houses CPD SWAT, evidence technicians, evidence and recovered property, among other police specialized units. The avenue where it occurred, police vehicles can be seen traveling to and from the facility at all hours of the day. This incident just demonstrates the lack of fear criminals have of the police right now.
Do I have to ask the question Yogi?
Be calm, Boo Boo, the answer is always the same.
How soon until the gun grabbers add this fatality to their running total as “another senseless gun death” and use it as a reason to push for further gun control?
“With your help, we can bring the number of these events to zero.”
The city should, at the very least, reimburse the victim's cost of ammunition.
‘The garbage man is armed. Think about it.’
Sounds to me that he was he was equipped and had the skills required to perform his job of taking out the ‘trash’.
Head shots save ammo.
Should’ve thrown the bodies in the truck and moved on
