I’ll keep reminding people that the damage done by the Deep State is orders of magnitude worse than the cost of employing them. In other words, paying them to do nothing makes the country (and the world, for that matter) a far better place then relative pittance of paying them for 8 months.

I occasionally run with the Great Falls, VA, Hash House Harriers. A lot of the members are current and former CIA. I don’t know what the heck any of them did in their jobs but they were surprisingly liberal in their political views, and also very very well off.
