The GOP’s ambitious plan to quickly advance President Trump’s legislative agenda is hitting an early speed bump, with Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) being forced to punt an initial vote on the legislation. Johnson and House GOP leaders repeatedly said that they wanted to start the legislative process on the measure encompassing much of Trump’s agenda by advancing a budget resolution out of committee this week. But a source told The Hill on Monday that the vote will not take place this week amid jockeying among Republicans over how deep the spending cuts should ultimately be.

That number will rise quickly when the RIF’s start in earnest.

Guvmint spending should be based on the previous year's GDP, 1 year at a time, and should include a list of things that HAVE TO and WILL BE funded first and another list of things that will be reduced or cut if GDP falls short. IOW - Perform or you're out of next year's budget.
$37 Trillion
When you are faced with an unsolvable problem, you pretty much do not solve it.
Just an FYI, spending is $6.1T and $1.1T of that is interest on the debt.
So you got $5T from which to cut. But wait! Inflation is about 2.4%, so that $5T is going up by $120 billion nominal before you even start your “cuts”.
Anyone think $125B in cuts will be approved? And if they are, that’s only $5B after inflation. It doesn’t even touch the $1T interest on the debt.
So for the current $6.1T in spending, after your “cut” you’ll be at $6.095T in spending, and yup $2T of that is deficit, added to the debt, which generates more interest next year.
They need to be whipped.....thoroughly.
Bring back Tom DeLay , the hammer.
And that is how the smarter Democrats are planning to get back into power. They will blame all the misery of the crash on Donald Trump and promise vengeance, plus a return to the "way it was in the Obama years".
"Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies" (Fleetwood Mac, Little Lies, 1987). It is a political strategy that has often been successful for the Democrats. They will continue with it.
Trump has about 18 months to be effective. Everything that counts towards that will happen in the next 70 days. Recovery from the economic crash must be visibly underway before the 2026 elections.
It is a narrow timeframe for success, with little room for mistakes.
Article mentions that members of the Freedom Caucus are saying there needs to be two bills, not one big bill, and that budget cuts aren’t big enough. Article also mentions that the Caucus members are in key positions on committees. Looks like the Freedom Caucus members are not on board and that may be part of the hold up.
With Stefanik’s recent resignation, Repubs basically need unanimous support in the House to pass anything, so one or two members can stop the process.
The GOP House, NGO board members, are in a sweat about now.
And half of that they can't touch by law (SS, Medicare).
Where in Tarnation did all of that money go? Oh, wait….
The Hill is another Lying Leftist Outlet and I don't believe what they say - full of half-truths and half-truths are lies.
You may think that, but as I watch C-Span today, the Hill is correct. I learned many years ago to gather info from many sources. This story was not only predictable (by me last week) but right on all fours.

But it was the more MAGA forcing the reconsideration, no?
