Russia’s New ‘Iskander-1000’ Ballistic Missile Boasts Doubled Range and Greater Accuracy

Multiple sources have reported that Russia is close to beginning serial production of a new derivative of the Iskander-M ballistic missile system, the official designation of which has not been confirmed. The new missile is expected to double the 500 kilometre range of the original system both by using a new more efficient engine, and by increasing fuel carriage by an estimate 15 percent. The resulting 1000km projected range has led the system to be colloquially dubbed the Iskander-1000. The first significant indications that the new missile class may be under development emerged in May 2024 in a video commemorating the 78th anniversary of the Kapustin Yar missile test site. The missiles have been speculated by Russian sources to be intended for deployment in Russia’s westernmost territory of Kaliningrad which would place it in range of targets across much of Central and Western Europe as well as the Baltic Sea. The Iskander-M is relied on heavily by Russian forces to provide an asymmetric counter to NATO’s much larger conventional forces, with its combination of high mobility, high precision, a diversity of warhead types, and a complex trajectory that is difficult to intercept, making it a highly valued asset. Its 9K720 ballistic missiles were restricted to a 500km range due to the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, which the United States withdrew from under the first Donald Trump administration. The longer range new Iskander system is expected to benefit from the same features as the original.

Another advance in Russian missile technology. The stupidest thing Donald Trump ever did was withdrawing us from the INF Treaty.

Compare what the Russians have deployed against our 1980s trillion dollar defenses since our withdrawal.

Iskander vs. 1980 ATACMS -get serious, this is a joke. ATACMS are useless against Russian defenses. Iskanders land with impunity in Ukraine.

Oreshnik vs. Nothing. We are two or three generations behind this technology.

Russian 500 Prometheus Air Defense vs. Useless 1980 deployed Patriot. Russian 400 systems make mincemeat out of ATACMS, Storm Shadows, US aircraft. Russian 400 system in Iran locked on Israeli stealth assets causing the scrapping of Israeli retaliatory air attack.

Russian, Iranian, Chinese, HOUTHI hypersonics are flying in action, the West is developing this technology.

Incredibly, Putin, the Iranians and Chicoms are willing to sign all of this away!

Mr. President, MAKE AN ARMS REDUCTION TREATY!

Who you gonna believe, the MIC narrative or your lying eyes?

“ Iran’s missiles successfully hit Israel’s Nevatim Air Base in the Negev.”

You know, that’s just war and technology. Antelopes and Cheetahs keeping pace with each other.

So they have a shiny new toy. Somebody will figure it out.

More accurate? Does that mean it will hit within 2ft of the target? Because we were doing that 30 years ago.

If the Russians are so great, why is Ukraine able to hit a different oil storage plant every night and Russia has to get North Koreans and people from other counties to be in their Army? Asking for mu 10 year old neighbor...

30 years ago we were were using mechanical gyros - and we may very well be doing so today. I know that 20 years ago China was prolifically publishing on fiber optic gyros, and I suspect there's a reason for that.

Of course both technologies get close to the target, but the mechanical gyro approach decreases reliability and increases cost.

“Another advance in Russian missile technology.”

One of the Zeepers this week was trying to convince me that we only sent junk weapons to Ukraine, and said the ATACMs - “they’re 18 years old!!!”. I asked what new missile replaced them in our arsenal.

...still waiting for a reply.

Still pretending this isn't a proxy war, I see.

A proxy war? Are you saying Iran, North Korea and China are making sure Russia hasn’t lost yet?
