Frustrated travelers arriving at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport on Tuesday found it extremely difficult to rent a car.
“I went to every counter upstairs, and nobody had cars. The last time I saw this before was during (COVID-19) when they sold off car fleets,” said car rental customer James Owen.
At the car rental center, the aisles of many agencies were empty. At other counters, people stood in line, not knowing when or if they would get a car.
“They just said they don’t have cars. I think what they said (is) there’s a truck coming to bring back cars. I’m not sure,” said car rental customer Fulya Patrick.

I see your Jerry Seinfeld and I raise you a Seve Martin.
If you want to get there, DRIVE....
I think that America is entering its ‘”Atlas Shrugged” - 2025 Edition’ phase
If I can't drive there, I don't need to go there.
Maybe you meant Seve Ballesteros, the great comedian?
Edie McClurg was great in every movie she was in.
That’s it!
Hartsfield–Jackson ATL is an asylum run by the inmates. God help me if I aver have to fly through there again.
if you want to find out why you have to take off your shoes, do a search for richard reid, the shoe bomber
I hate that airport with the burning intensity of a thousand suns.
And that's exactly what happened to all the rental cars in Atlanta after snowstorms cancelled flights.
People rented cars for one-way trips to their terminal destinations (Atlanta is a connecting hub) and didn't bring them back.
The rental companies bought a lot of electric cars to fill their lots. When nobody wanted to rent them, they had buyer’s regret and got rid of them. Now, they don’t have enough cars to rent. JMHO
A VERY long time ago I got deplaned at Christmas time in Boston [weather] and after a brief [negative] discussion with the A/P car rental desks, [and then] through a very non standard way made my way to South Station.
Got on the Amtrak, [wrote a check to a chick to get some cash to pay the freight], rode in the women’s loo [it WAS a bit crowded].
Made it to Baltimore on time [more or less].
Now I always run with my own horse [CO2 powered vehicle].
YMMV
“”(3)Why am I here and my luggage is way up there out of sight””
Reminds me of a great comedy routine. A passenger at the airport waits in line to purchase a plane ticket. When he gets up to the ticket counter, he asks if one suitcase can go to Newark, and the other suitcase go to Cleveland. When the clerk at the ticket counter says they cannot do that, the passenger states: “well heck, you did it a month ago!”
These days, I only travel with carry-on. Travel light, travel bright. And yes, we would much rather drive than fly.
If I can drive the distance in 6 hours I do not fly. Basically after 300 miles I would consider flying.
Example: San Antonio to Dallas is 274 miles. In my car I can do it in about 4-1/2 hours.
By Plane: 2 hours to get to airport and clear security sometimes longer, 1 hour flight, 1 hour to retrieve my luggage and rent a car, 30 minutes to an hour to get to my destination in Dallas. Thus the trip by airplane is more time than just driving to my destination in Dallas.
400 miles is maybe drive or maybe fly depending on the connections I can get.
500 miles I fly.
I miss the late 60s to about 1980. You dressed up to fly and were courteous to the stewardess and they were courteous to you. I would call them mam and they would call me sir. That was nice. The riffraff seldom flew back then. TSA did not exist though I do understand the necessity of it today. I always suspected the hire on the basis of personality disorder. They are unpleasant people and once stole a very fine bottle of very old whiskey from my luggage. I was not pleased.
When one considers the inflation adjusted costs of air travel today it is much cheaper than the past. This is when the riffraff started flying. First class today is a joke as compared to the past on our domestic carriers. Cathay Pacific and Singapore air still do a great job.
