With the Trump administration declaring that immigration agents are now free to make arrests in places of worship, undeterred faith leaders in Southern California and beyond say they are prepared to aid and even shelter immigrants.
"We have an executive order from God, not from politicians," said Guillermo Torres, who leads immigration campaigns at Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice, a nonprofit advocacy group in Los Angeles. "Do you think we're going to betray the greatest commandment, to love your neighbor as yourself?"
The enforcement policy, announced last week, rescinded a 2011 memo that restricted immigration agents from making arrests in sensitive locations, such as churches and schools.
A group of Quaker congregations on Monday sued the Department of Homeland Security in federal court over the policy change, saying the threat of immigration enforcement deters congregants from attending services, harming religious liberty.
Bishop John Taylor of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles said he looks forward to joining with colleagues in mounting further legal challenges "if the government follows through on its stated intention to violate the sanctity of churches and other places of worship when they shelter those fleeing unjust power."

How about you?
Agree. There is no legal right to harbor illegals anywhere
I agree.
...Guillermo Torres, who leads immigration campaigns...
Many “Churches” of today are merely political organizations

I'd like to see that "executive order" Guillermo. Because I think you are lying.

There it is. It's all about the $$, isn't it Quakers?
I’m willing to forebear from entering Christian churches - its a longstanding tradition of our people.
But that means, they stay inside the four walls of the Church. The only way they come out is to be arrested.
In DC, we once had a reverend who was sheltering three prison escapees in his church. When we hit the place, I personally put handcuffs on the good reverend. He was charged with Prison Breach, just like the escapees were.
Because this is a criminal conspiracy, in the same way the mafia was always a criminal conspiracy.
There is no Christian morality in sheltering, to evade police capture, of any violent criminal.
The Episcopal church now allows non-lesbian bishops? When did this happen??
Churches and clergy need to pay their “fair share” of taxes.
“the greatest commandment, to love your neighbor as yourself?”
A heck of a stretch to interpret scripture as saying harbor illegal aliens thst have broken the law......WOW
We are supposed to submit to authorities unless contrary to God’s laws. Immigrants and church leaders should be obeying immigration laws. Our immigration laws are not contrary to God’s laws.
Start by defunding their NGO’s and stripping their church of its tax exempt status, then escalate from there.
Sorry Al Sharptonezs, you are not above the law. Except when it comes to paying your fair share in taxes.
“Immigration arrests in churches? Some clergy say not so fast”
OK clergy, you support them financially, give them food, clothing and a rent free domicile and if they commit a crime you do their time in prison to show them true love.
“to love your neighbor as yourself”
When your “neighbor” is an illegal invader and you “love” them by giving them aid and comfort you become a traitor.
