Here's what the federal government does for you

...the Trump administration directed a freeze on federal funding, the chaos drove home a salient point: The federal government does a lot for you.

The administration targeted 2,623 federal programs for review...Funding for programs that provide health insurance, child care, food assistance, housing aid, and much, much more remained uncertain. Disrupting the federal government plumbing is a delicate process that, if done crudely, could hit vital lifelines for the American people.

"The government is involved in things that people don't feel all the time, a lot of things we take for granted like safe drinking water," said Bobby Kogan, senior director of federal budget policy at the left-leaning think tank Center for American Progress.

The ones that sparked the most outrage were programs that help America's most vulnerable with funding deadlines looming over the next few days, such as Section 8 housing assistance, Medicaid, and the Head Start reimbursement program that gives low-income families money for their children's education.

...some of the payment systems went down on Tuesday. "That could have truly harmed people — if you take away people's nutrition, healthcare, housing, education — things people depend on," Kogan said. What may still be in the crosshairs: under-the-radar supports that millions of Americans rely on but may not recognize on a daily basis.

There are loans for farm storage, grants to ensure safe drinking water, funding to implement pool and spa safety laws, money for suicide prevention for veterans, and grants for AmeriCorps programs. The beneficiaries of this funding run the gamut: farmers, Native tribes, seniors, people with disabilities, those living in rural areas, children, veterans, and victims of mass violence and acts of terror. There's even a grant to Florida to reimburse citrus producers for the costs associated with recovering from the 2017 hurricane destruction.

More..."Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) told reporters on Tuesday following the freeze. "Everything from a small dam project, small hydro project down in the Angoon area, to people concerned about everything from housing to water infrastructure projects.”

If we had a self-reliant, can-do American spirit once again, we'd ask the zero-base question: SHOULD the government be doing all these things? Which of these things are not properly in the government's constitutional purview?

Authors like Janna Herron and leftist activists like Bobby Kogan are always of the opinion that government can do no wrong, that the government should do everything for us in our daily lives, that we as free people have no responsibility to do things for ourselves.

Murkowsky complained about threats to a small dam project, a small hydro project down in the Angoon area, housing and water infrastructure. Why there HELL aren't these funded local or by the STATE of Alaska? The federal government should have NO ROLE in these types of projects. If they are important to Alaskans, then let Alaskans pay for them. They haver NO BEARING on the federal government.

The slightest threats to peoples' sacred cows brings yowls and shrieks from the takers.

It is utterly sickening.

You live in a virtual prison, where nothing takes place without the guards approving.

What the government care about you? I thought it’s all about benefits for illegals and political insiders making money on green scams, endless wars, forced vaccinations to enrich pharma, empowering the police state, promoting perverts.
Scumbags and shirkers.

This is the big lie

As we saw with FEMA that the “Federal Government” actually does mostly is get in the way.

Are really useful examination would be out of every $1 spent, how much actually get to recipients in programs other then Medicare, Medicate, Food Stamps and other direct payments.

For example how much “Federal” money goes to paying for building and how much is skimmed off by Government bureaucrats for “studies” and “environmental impact assessments”.

The best way to visualize how useless large segments of the US Government are is to visualize a very small dog dwarfed by an enormous tail.

The Feds should just stick to what powers they were given by the Constitution, not all these Democrat vote buying “boondoggles”.
That is all they are a way to buy votes from Democrats, because most Non- Democrats eg. Americans despise the modern Federal government.
There is this thing call the 10th Amendment we should pay attention to IT!
My favorite example is the interstate freeway system. That benefits most every Mainland state so it’s fair for Feds to be involved, so Why does Hawaii Have Interstate freeways?
Why does Alaska have them? Why can Puerto Rico make them should they so choose. No USA roads run from them to the mainland.
Pure and simple; Because Democrats want to buy votes.

Federal government run by and for Democrats is Evil
government.

“As we saw with FEMA that the “Federal Government” actually does mostly is get in the way.”

Also, look at the horrible STATE and COUNTY Govt response to the fires in Los Angeles. They had ONE mission...build and maintain enough reservoirs to fight fires. Acquire and maintain equipment necessary to fulfill that mission.

The COVER on the reservoir tore open, so they drained the whole 111,000,000 gallon reservoir dry and didn’t do any repair work until it was too late. The mayor goes to Africa for no reason. The Deputy mayor phoned a bomb threat to the city council and is in jail. The LAFD was not properly manned. They hired DEI idiots to run things. A huge amount of equipment was out of service because they couldn’t hire enough mechanics.

It was government FAILURE at every level and repeatedly over a long period of time.

Yep which is why the Fed money need to be drained out of covering for local and state incompetence.

The incompetence in LA needs to be delt with by the country and state voters. Uncle Sugar should not be rushing in with the taxpayers checkbook to fix their failures.

The Founders gave us liberty and the social contract to be left alone by limited government under a simple Constitution of inalienable rights by god not government. This Fedgov of today is disgusting.

“If we had a self-reliant, can-do American spirit once again,….”

It is a wonderful thought but let’s be real, the old “can-do American spirit” lived right along side third world poverty in much of the old America. The right kind of government intervention did help bring up the average standard of living markedly in the 20th century and brought vast parts of the US into the modern world. It is pretty rare to see shantytowns across the US or places with no running water, proper sanitation or electricity, but those things were still a fairly common sight well into the 1960’s.
