Typhon is a land based version of the USN VLS missile launcher arrays, mounted on trucks. 6 Batteries of Typhon (16 missile cells per battery, 4 per launcher) equal the missile load on an Arleigh Burke class Destroyer (96 cells). Contents of the cells can include Tomahawk TLAM, Standard SAM series, etc. These land based cells can be easily reloaded, while the ones on ships can only be reloaded while docked.
Its not clear to me how the Standard SAM will be used. These will require radars and other shipboard systems. Some land based component that I am not yet aware of will have to be provided.
This is part of the land-based "unsinkable" firepower that is being deployed in the Philippines, given its front-line combat status at this time.

- The cells can also take the Patriot PAC3
- Looks like at least two batteries are going to the Pacific/Asia (probably the Philippines).
- The NRO satellite constellation (currently being launched by SpaceX) looks like a good way to provide near-real-time targeting data to the TLAMs.

“China calls US missile deployment in Philippines ‘dangerous.”
They’re supposed to be.

All this will do is increase the number of countries China will aim at when they are ready to move.
And as a side note, if the US wants to fight China then fight China don’t drag other countries to do all the dying.

The SM-6 has the active fire and forget seeker same as the AMRAAM it doesn’t need the radars of a ship to be launched it only needs que’ing to the radar on acquisition box. That same missile can also be used as a mach 4 surface to surface antiship mode as well as antiballistic missile mode. They are not cheap but they are one of the most capable misiles in the world. Don’t be on the receiving end of it.

It is as is all of east Asia. China’s ambitions in the area are bigger than you think.
Countries that host these weapon systems are guaranteeing they get attacked when China moves.
I think in the end China is a lot stronger than we want to admit and the west is a lot weaken than they project.

It’s dangerous because while the west call it “containment”, China calls it “provocation”.

I think pretty big. There is an unofficial (undeclared) alliance already among those countries, and the Phils is in it. They all want the US solidly in. The Typhon and other such systems, plus the ground to stick them on, are exactly what the Phils can use/contribute.

I am uncertain if the US has supplied an aquisition radar of sufficient range, etc. If they have they wouldnt tell me of course.

Countries that host these weapon systems are guaranteeing they get attacked when China moves. Countries that can't defend themselves are safe from Chinese attack?
