MANILA (UPDATED) — The Philippine Army on Tuesday said the US' Mid-Range Capability (MRC) missile system recently transferred to an undisclosed location in the country would be used in the upcoming Combined Arms Training Exercise (CATEX) Katihan in February.
China calls US missile deployment in Philippines 'dangerous' But Army spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala said the use of the Typhon missile launchers will be limited to subject matter expert exchanges (SMEEs), which will focus on the orientation and familiarization of the capability.
“The second iteration of the SMEEs with the MRC between the US Army Pacific (USARPAC) and the Army Artillery Regiment will focus on the payload delivery system and the continuation of what we have learned in the first iteration of the SMEE,” Dema-ala told reporters in a press briefing.
The CATEX Katihan, which will be conducted on the second or third week of February, is in preparation for the annual Salaknib Exercise between the Philippine Army and the US Army.

Thank you very much and God bless you.
Its not clear to me how the Standard SAM will be used. These will require radars and other shipboard systems. Some land based component that I am not yet aware of will have to be provided.
This is part of the land-based "unsinkable" firepower that is being deployed in the Philippines, given its front-line combat status at this time.

- The cells can also take the Patriot PAC3
- Looks like at least two batteries are going to the Pacific/Asia (probably the Philippines).
- The NRO satellite constellation (currently being launched by SpaceX) looks like a good way to provide near-real-time targeting data to the TLAMs.
“China calls US missile deployment in Philippines ‘dangerous.”
They’re supposed to be.
L
All this will do is increase the number of countries China will aim at when they are ready to move.
And as a side note, if the US wants to fight China then fight China don’t drag other countries to do all the dying.
China calls US missile deployment in Philippines ‘dangerous’
For them.
“This is dangerous”
Not if you leave them alone.
Philippines believes it is itself directly threatened by China.
The SM-6 has the active fire and forget seeker same as the AMRAAM it doesn’t need the radars of a ship to be launched it only needs que’ing to the radar on acquisition box. That same missile can also be used as a mach 4 surface to surface antiship mode as well as antiballistic missile mode. They are not cheap but they are one of the most capable misiles in the world. Don’t be on the receiving end of it.
It is as is all of east Asia. China’s ambitions in the area are bigger than you think.
Countries that host these weapon systems are guaranteeing they get attacked when China moves.
I think in the end China is a lot stronger than we want to admit and the west is a lot weaken than they project.
“China calls US missile deployment in Philippines ‘dangerous.”
only if you FAFO
It’s dangerous because while the west call it “containment”, China calls it “provocation”.
I think pretty big. There is an unofficial (undeclared) alliance already among those countries, and the Phils is in it. They all want the US solidly in. The Typhon and other such systems, plus the ground to stick them on, are exactly what the Phils can use/contribute.
Review
I am uncertain if the US has supplied an aquisition radar of sufficient range, etc. If they have they wouldnt tell me of course.
So we should just surrender to the Red Chinese?
China is doing the dragging.
Should surrender to the idea that the world is not the United States to control.
Countries that can't defend themselves are safe from Chinese attack?
"Check your premises" ~ Ayn Rand
The American empire extends to all parts of the world. That is not only good, but it is very, very good.
Adding yourself to a initial target list when war breaks out isn’t staying safe.
