This California bill would let victims, insurance companies sue Big Oil for disaster damages

A bill that would allow victims and insurance companies to seek damages in court from fossil fuel companies after weather disasters was introduced Monday in the state legislature by Sen. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco, in an effort to address California’s home insurance crisis. Supporters of Senate Bill 222 say it could help reduce insurance premiums by allowing insurers to recoup costs from fossil fuel companies — accused of misleading the public about the consequences of their products — rather than relying solely on rate increases.

Heads up! It’s this Weiner, or Pelosi’s daughter, who will probably get Pelosi’s seat

They had already sued the Electric Company out of existence, so they decided to go where the remaining money was left.

Petroleum companies should be more proactive in helping California achieve their goals in this regard and halt all shipments of their petroleum products to California.

Big Oil should sue California for allow its citizens to use petroleum products. This is thievery. The Santa Ana winds and unmanaged forestry has been around for thousands of years. “Big Oil” had nothing to do with it.

Lived in San Diego or San Francisco for 30 years from age 32-62, left a few years ago. It is beautiful there but lots of beautiful places in this world to live and 90% are cheaper than California.

It’s a deflection for poor government, graft, and poor choices. However, Constitutionally speaking, it’s a State’s right unless it effects interstate commerce.

Here I think is the rub, the interstate commerce act. Petroleum based products, CO2 release, and climate change involves more than the State of California. Bankrupting companies potentially, or passing on expense by settlements to other states who use petroleum products, effects interstate commerce.

Therefore, California law here is unconstitutional because it usurps Federal Government power to regulate interstate commerce and for international treaties and negotiations concerning CO2 release. This would be true IF CO2 release were the driving factor for ‘climate change’ AND if that CO2 release could be shown to directly caused California uncontrolled wildfires.

Pres Trump should come put and state that if California leaders are NOT going to take responsibility for the8r failures, and are instead going to attack an innocent industry and blame them, then federal aid will be withheld from the state, and th3 citizens can deal out justice by voting the failures out of office for both not protrdt8ng the state, and for trying to falsely blame others!

This is a really good idea for CA. Punish the oil companies that sell distillate fuels in CA by blaming them rather than the elected officials who actually mismanaged the resources that caused the problem. Great idea! Does anyone else see oil companies refusing to sell fuel in CA? Liberals are ecstatic because there would be no fuel for internal combustion engines, so pollution would be greatly reduced. And don’t worry about the fact that there would be no way to move 90% of the people to their jobs or food products to markets. That will take care of itself as people starve to death.

It’s ok to build houses in extreme risk fire prone areas, do NOTHING to mitigate the risks like simple brush clearing, not fix a water reservoir for over a year, let record rain and snow amounts from the last year just run to ocean to save a one nice fish, etc.
But hey, let’s sue oil companies !
Dumba$$es…

No...easier fix here...raise gas-pump prices to $30 a gallon. Then create a victim-card. As long as you keep receipts...charge via their victim card, and not sue them...you get the vast amount of your money back each year.

You sue...you are donating to the fund.
