Google said Monday it will change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to "Gulf of America" in Google Maps after the Trump administration updates its "official government sources."
The company also said it will start using the name "Mount McKinley" for the mountain in Alaska currently called Denali.
Last week, President Donald Trump signed executive actions that included an order to make the name changes on official maps and federal communications.
"We've received a few questions about naming within Google Maps," the company said in an X post. "We have a longstanding practice of applying name changes when they have been updated in official government sources."
Google added that the name Gulf of Mexico will remain displayed for users in Mexico. Users in other countries will see both names, the company said.
Trump also said he will restore former President William McKinley's name to the mountain. He said McKinley made the country "very rich" through tariffs and talent.
The mountain was named Mount McKinley until 2015, when President Barack Obama's administration changed it to Denali as a symbolic gesture to Alaska Natives.

Need to rename the F.B.I. to the Federal Justice Bureau.
F.J.B.
I like that.
I’ll probably still use Gulf of Mexico like I do Fort Benning. Everyone who was stationed at Benning will never refer to it by whatever name it’s supposed to go by now.
WINNING BIGLEY!!!!
America is two continents.
Now do Squaw Peak.
Oh crap, that’s a state matter.
I think Gulf of Texas is more appropriate.
Me, too!
I have a globe and a laminated wall map. I’m covered. :)
I wish I had the globe our family had when I was growing up, with the USSR and two Germanys on it. And North Yemen and South Yemen and Rhodesia…
I think my parents got that globe in the 60s. Czechoslovakia was still its own country on that globe, before the Soviets invaded it. Dang, I wonder where that thing is? One of my sibs probably has it.
I arrived on the shores of the *Gulf of Mexico* 12 days ago for an event over the long weekend. Monday we mostly watched streams of inaugural events, and saw Trump sign the EO. In the early hours of Tuesday, DeSantis declared a state of emergency for the Panhandle counties, and referenced the *Gulf of America*, less than 12 hours after the EO. Later that morning, we left the shores of the *Gulf of America* ahead of the winter storm, driving north thru flurries in L.A. (that would be Lower Alabama). Got home safe and sound late that afternoon.
A fun time!
WOW
Fort Moore. And I like and respect Gen Hal Moore, but it will always be Fort Benning to me, too.
Florida has more coastline. Better stick with Gulf of America.
The Gulf lies between and next to North America, South America and Central America. It should ALWAYS have been called the Gulf of America. It just makes sense.
👍🏼👍🏼
How about “Gulf of Las Americas”
“Gulf of the Americas” thus it will reflect North America and South America also and the two major languages of the American Continents.
Fort Hood was renamed Fort Cavasos. Both were honorable soldiers but it will always be Fort Hood to me.
