Russian Withdrawal From Prized Syrian Naval Base Now Underway
The War Zone via Yahoo ^ | 27 January 2025 | Joseph Trevithick

Satellite imagery shows clear indications that Russia’s increasingly anticipated withdrawal of forces from its Tartus naval base in Syria has finally started. Complete loss of access to the facility, where Russian vehicles and materiel have been massing there for weeks already, would be a major blow to the Kremlin. The Russian military has already been steadily drawing down its posture at Khmeimim Air Base in Syria amid persistent questions about the future of its presence in the country as a whole since the sudden fall of dictator Bashar Al Assad last year.

Satellite imagery taken on January 25 that TWZ obtained from Maxar, seen at the top of this story and below, shows the Russian-flagged roll-on/roll-off (RO/RO) cargo ships Sparta and Sparta II docked in Tartus, as well as cargo transloading activity. The two ships had been holding offshore for days before finally being allowed to enter the port.

--- "Good. Get the hell home. Same goes for Uncle Sam."

Therein lies the issue for those who think like an Obama or a Blinken about the "projection of power." Costs a lot to do that when done by governments.

Costs next to nothing for local people who some will argue are freedom fighters, and others will argue are terrorists on the basis of asymmetric violence which does occur. And other will argue rights of local control and self-determination, while others argue the 'locals" should not be allowed such rights. And responsibilities.

What seems sure -- and in direct contradistinction to the dreams of the big government and globalist types -- is that pursing "projection of power" well beyond one's supply lines and the like is extremely tenuous, long term. One can go broke doing that.

Ah, and the above in mentioned in the context of over $ 36 trillion in rapdily rising debt for a global power which is be bankrupted by "progress."

You go right ahead. Be the first to lead the few volunteers into battle. < s a r c > Remember a Commander-in-Chief ordering them out, and a chain of command ignoring him? Likely not going to happen a second time.

What's amusing to ponder is that this President Trump is a lame duck who won't have to consider re-election campaigns and the like. It should be interesting.

Sure hope nothing happens to those ships full of valuable equipment on the way out of the Mediterranean Sea. Not sure the Russians could afford to lose all that nice functional military equipment at once when they have such pressing needs elsewhere.

--- "...colonialism had it's day."

An apt remark. From Ostrom ( solving the problem of the commons, 2009 ) to old Tip O'Neill ( all politics is is local ) to Milei currently shrinking the Argentine bureaucracy to the betterment of the Argentine economy, it does seem as if "local" is the way forward.

Let locals govern themselves, pay for themselves and correct for themselves. Gosh, there'd be no need for world organizations, "elites" telling us what's in our best interest from some lofty peak, and a "multipolar" world would have not three or four "super-powers" but hundreds if not thousands of poles.

Not too much fun for the colonialists though. Less opportunity for those grifters and con artists and snake oil chaps, too.

--- "the web rules now" reflects what some of my colleagues had said was the "real" revolution today. Connectivity, such that peering behind the "curtain" to see who's "pulling the levers" is becoming ever more easy. And it annoys the elite, which is why the loud cries now of misinformation and disinformation and the like are heard.

Narrative control is a defense line drawn around those who want to rule -- us.
