"My parents.. young couple deeply in love. Before father was taken to a labor camp, mother wanted to become pregnant. My father was against it. ‘You don’t bring a child into a world where sure death is waiting for them everywhere,’ he said. But my mother, so in love, replied, ‘Maybe one of us will stay alive, and they will have a memory of the other.’
"Under these conditions, I came into the world – a world where death awaited me at every corner. "Budapest, 1944. A freezing December night. Mothers are marching with their babies in deadly silence, heading toward the railway station. The destination: Auschwitz. "Then, something unprecedented happened. With a sudden movement, my mother tore off her yellow star and ran out of the line, holding me in her arms. She hid under a gate, thinking no one had seen her. "But a young Hungarian Nazi chased after her, shouting and aiming his rifle at her chest. ‘How dare you take off the yellow star?’ he roared. ‘Now I’m going to kill your child and make you watch. Then you’ll go back to the line without your baby.’ "There was no point in begging for mercy. All my mother had was a thin golden wedding ring. She held it out to him, saying: ‘Look! Look! You kill people and take their jewelry, but this ring is different – it is not covered in blood. It shines because you didn’t murder anyone for it. Take it. There is a blessing on it. You gave life to a mother and her child. Take it!’
"Maybe, in that one moment, he found a spark of humanity within himself. He didn’t follow her. He let her run, and we were saved.
"father... hunger camp .. family ... Many shot into.. River..

Note. This particular Nazi was Hungarian, not German by ethnicity.
One survivor said “God will have to beg us for forgiveness”
These stories always bring me to tears. I don’t know how people can be so evil.
Anyone who happens to be in the District of Corruption, I fully recommend a visit to the Holocaust museum.
Those people marching in support of Palestinians aka Hamas don’t seem to remember what horrors the Holocaust brought into the world and Islam’s Army would reenact that again if they could get away with it.
You’re so right
At least the DC has something contributing to offer
What an amazing story. The mother had the spirit to be both poet and philosopher in the face of death.
What an extremely low bar to find ‘spark of humanity’ just not to bring about their deaths.
You all were braggart, boastful and careless of others lives
You purposely bathed nations in blood
I think you will need the Almighty’s help to wash it off
For it is on you.
People are born evil, or, at minimum, capable of great evil.
They have to be taught, to learn ethics, to learn to be moral. Some religions teach people to be evil, some teach them to treat others as they would wish to be treated.
Christianity teaches people to love others as themselves.
It is a very unusual religion.
The idea people are “born good” is a terrible, corrupting influence on society. It is simply false.
God created people with the potential to love, but we live in a fallen world full of hate. People need to learn the realities of both.
Unfortunately, one motivated, hateful person can easily control 20 loving and kind people.

Better, I think, to call him a collaborator. Many (but certainly not all) Hungarians decided that collaborating with Nazi Germany was the better bet, at least in the short run. We saw the same thing in occupied France, Norway, the Netherlands, and many other places.
Weak-minded people will often take such a route. They will put morality aside, and instead take the easiest path forward. The really scary thing is that such people exist in great numbers in EVERY country.
Many “progressives” in our country would like nothing more than to send conservatives to brutal re-education camps. They wouldn’t hesitate for a second.
Just like Schwartz Gyorgy.
I’m in my 80’s, I’m not Jewish, I’ve heard these stories all my life and it brings tears to my eyes every time.. I just never get used to it. I am as horrified today as I was the first time I heard it. It’s just so easy to put yourself in that position and know exactly how it would feel.
Lesley Stahl, speaking of US sanctions against Iraq: “We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that’s more children than died in Hiroshima. And – and you know, is the price worth it?”
Madeleine Albright: “I think this is a very hard choice, but the price – we think the price is worth it.”
Hosea 5:15...gonna take awhile still.
????? A camp survivor is the bad guy???
I watched some of this and they had a guy who was going on about gender BS and homophobia. Equating it with the Nazis and how it is on the rise with more far right coming into power. In other words the standard leftist talking points. Nothing is safe from this crap.
