Gabbard’s path through Intelligence Committee narrows ahead of key hearing

Republicans are cautioning that Tulsi Gabbard’s path to confirmation to lead the U.S. Intelligence apparatus is narrowing as she seemingly has trouble winning over key GOP senators.

Gabbard, along with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Kash Patel, are set for their high-stakes confirmation hearings this week as senators face some of President Trump’s most controversial nominees.

But it’s Gabbard who appears to have the most tenuous path to confirmation as she struggles to assuage Republicans on the Senate Intelligence Committee, which will determine her fate, ahead of Thursday’s hearing.

“I think it remains to be seen,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), an Intelligence member, when asked if Gabbard can win support of the committee. “I think the jury’s still out.”

A second Senate Republican agreed, telling The Hill that Gabbard “has a path [that] continues to narrow.”

Gabbard can’t afford to lose a single vote on the Intelligence Committee, which has a 9-8 party split and features two GOP members who are considered swing votes: Sens. Susan Collins (Maine), who last week voted against another Trump nominee on the floor, and Todd Young (Ind.).

Collins told The Hill in an interview that she wants to press Gabbard on her stance on Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which allows for the warrantless surveillance of foreign targets.

Gabbard has sought to walk back her past criticism of the program, but Collins told The Hill she doesn’t necessarily believe Gabbard’s change of heart.

“There are several questions I want to follow up on in the hearing,” Collins said

How annoying is Sen. Collins of Maine?

She opposes everything for the sake of it and for no good reason. You'd think she'd support someone like Gabbard but no her TDS is in the way [must be].

She will be hoping to win a few over to cancel out the GOPers

It should be an interesting vote when you look at it

I have no idea what will happen

“My prior concerns about FISA were based on insufficient protections for civil liberties, particularly regarding the FBI’s misuse of warrantless search powers on American citizens,” Gabbard said.

Not a thing wrong with that. Because that is exactly what happened. Citizens got swept up and their data was compromised.
Why would Collins or anyone not find that concerning?

What are liberal media/columnists/pundits saying about Gabbard’s nomination and how do they view it ?

I wonder if the Dems will close ranks or some will support their former colleague

She really may need a few of them to get this....

The Fact that she is still being put forward gives me hope something is in the works. It usually is.

Two of the most unintelligent people on the planet sitting on the $inate Intelligence Committee and our .gov can't figure out why we despise them so.

Heavenly Father we come before you because we know it does not matter what man thinks but what you think. We believe these are the people you laid on Trump heart to appoint. We are asking for favor in Congress for Tulsi Gabbard, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Kash Pate so they will be confirmed. Amen

The Shill said Hesgeth wouldn’t get confirmed & he did he albeit that was close and a tie breaker.

Tulsi’s will be similar but she should get SOME Dems you would think to cancel out the few GOPers.

We’ll see.

She may opposes her, and for reasons people don’t agree with. That’s hardly no good reason.

"...she should get SOME Dems...

Snowball's chance in hell. Tulsi committed the unforgivable sin in the eyes of democrats. She went against the party line which is worse than treason in their eyes, and for which they would impose capital punishment if they could.

“She opposes everything for the sake of it and for no good reason. “

If Collins ran as a Democrat, she would never be elected.

Gabbard and Kennedy are traitors in the same sense the USSR was a traitor when they shedded communism. Anyone that turns their back on the commies gets a shiv in it. The rats will be at war with Gabbard and Kennedy for forever, just like they are at war with Russia.

All of the commies, including Collins, Murkowski and Mitch the Bitch, will vote no on this pair.
