Several inspectors general are out of a job after President Donald Trump informed them they were fired on Friday evening.
Approximately 17 of them were fired without notice via email, USA Today reported on Saturday, noting an official who lost their job confirmed the information to the newspaper.
The outlet continued:
The inspectors general are independent watchdogs within agencies who investigate and disclose waste, fraud and abuse.
Those fired Friday include inspectors at the Pentagon and departments of State, Veterans Affairs and Interior, which oversees marine oil and gas leases as well as Indian Affairs, said the fired official who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.
The news was first reported by the Washington Post which said most of the individuals were appointed during 2017 to 2021 in Trump’s first term, the Today article read.
In a letter on Friday, the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency Chairperson Hannibal “Mike” Ware wrote to Director of Presidential Personnel at the White House, Sergio Gor, about the firings.
“I recommend that you reach out to White House Council to discuss your intended course of action. At this point, we do not believe the actions taken are legally sufficient to dismiss Presidentially Appointed, Senate Confirmed Inspectors General,” he wrote, citing amendments to the Inspector General Act of 1978 that says the president must notify Congress 30 days before firing an inspector general and give reasons for it.
Hours after Trump took the oath of office on Monday, Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) chief David Pekoske was forced out of his job, Breitbart News reported.

The RINO’s most likely gave me a list of “qualified” people for the IG spot. Trump knows better this time around.
A couple of thoughts. 1) Drain the swamp. And IGs appointed by Biden are likely to be swampy. 2) Many agencies fail audits (e.g. DOD) and if the IG is doing their job, why aren’t they passing audit? 3) Obama dropped IGs (law did change after that), so why didn’t the senators get excited then? 4) Not sure this law is constitutional given the separation of powers. 5) I wish Trump had played the game on this one and given 30 days notice with specifics of why. 6) I do support Trump (still) and think this and many other firings are in order (I did in fact contribute $$ to all three of his campaigns). Trump and his peeps will take hits from the uniparty for certain. That said, play the game better sir. Love your first week. Want more, yes. But beat them at their own game.
Nothing they can do. It’s not racist or sexist. That horse left the barn.
IGs do what they are told, and what they were told was to protect the deep state.
Services not needed anymore suckerfish.
Maybe the right people can now find all those 100’s of $billions that are unaccounted for. Of course, we all know where it went, but it would be nice for those “hazy” pockets to be identified.
If Trump is going to do that, they'll just run the clock out. Trump has four years.
So Trump needs to be a little like Lincoln and clean up the Swamp.
Then with JD or DeSantis, it can go back to "normal".
But as it is right now, the Swamp runs the country and yes, that includes the White House.
RE: Those fired Friday....
Old advice is not to fire someone on a Friday (and some employees have taken off to avoid it, too).
Internet cliches about it——
With the weekend approaching, an employee has less time to process the news, contact HR, or begin looking for new employment opportunities.
The extended weekend can amplify negative feelings and uncertainty about the future.
Other employees might become anxious and worried about their own job security if they see a colleague fired on a Friday.
Potential for legal issues:
In some cases, an employee might feel pressured to make quick decisions without proper legal advice due to the timing of the termination.
Other federal employees who don’t feel the vibes are optimal for coming to work in person, or who like the goofing off time pretending to work from home, may end up fired on some day of the week if not Friday.
FTA: “most of the individuals were appointed during 2017 to 2021 in Trump’s first term”
Parley Baer is probably right in Post #2: “The RINO’s most likely gave Trump a list of “qualified” people for the IG spots.”
Trump was new in town and thought he had “friends” in the Republican party. Now he is a lot wiser and can take out the trash.
“Inspector General Act of 1978 that says the president must notify Congress 30 days before firing an inspector general and give reasons for it.”
Is that constitutional? Seems like a separation of powers issue. If Congress wanted control over these guys, they should have placed them under their control.
There may be a Quonset hut in Greenland in their future!
“...Inspector General Act of 1978 that says the president must notify Congress 30 days before firing an inspector general and give reasons for it. “
OK, give 30 them days pay, send them home, and notify Congress.
All the boxes checked.
BTW, I seem to recall Bill Clinton firing a lot of DOJ attorneys after he assumed the presidency, with Hillary Clinton ( then only First Lady ) coming under scrutiny for allegedly having played a central role in the firings of the employees of the White House Travel Office and making false statements about the head of the office Billy Dale ( later exonerated by an independent investigator, but not after spending lots of money on legal fees ).
The IG Illusion is very real. At lower levels of the military a good IG can head off many problems for unaware commanders by reporting/revealing/ investigating complaints to those in charge. The purpose of the IG is not one of “gotcha” although the authority to elevate issues/findings or take actions through enforcement is a possibility.
The IGs at the level POTUS is addressing are 100% “team players” and in the modern DS and military complex POTUS is not on the team. POTUS is firing the first salvos of the Golden Age of MAGA and laying the groundwork for a prosperous America and a world at peace through economic growth and personal freedom that will be this generations gift to our grandchildren and the future to come.
WWG1WGA!
That’s 17 fewer leakers to NYT.
Yep.
This.
That’s part of his job. He don’t need leakers. They didn’t work out last time. The bastards couldn’t get their stories straight.
If the IG were doing their job the employees would be fired and find they have liens on their houses to clawback some of the money they lost accountability for.
