Somewhere in the bowels of the CNN Building in Atlanta is a video clip that has been on file since the channel began in 1980. The footage is of a military band performing “Nearer My God To Thee.” The explicit instructions are that this particular tape is not to be released for broadcast “till the end of the world confirmed.”
Morbid perhaps, but Ted Turner can’t be disparaged for thinking of the big picture. His CNN was going on the air with the then-traditional national anthem and would stop for nothing until the apocalypse. This being the dawn of the Eighties it was far easier to imagine the end of history descending with an inevitable conflagration of nuclear holocaust.
Thankfully, those fears abated a little more than a decade later. But the “end of the world tape” still exists, ready to be deployed in circumstances that can not be readily calculated.
CNN might well be broadcasting until the final moments of humankind. But its clout as a prestigious news leader has certainly met its demise. A network that boasted of an audience of millions during the Persian Gulf War is today measured in tens of thousands. It’s not even shown in most airport terminals anymore. CNN is now profusely bleeding staff, particularly in the months since the 2024 election.
CNN and much of the rest of the legacy news media, if not outright dead, are being held aloft by what medical staff would call “heroic measures” to stave off the inevitable. And they have only themselves to blame.
The moment has arrived to vigorously address this.

Make it the corpse.
Because they went after Trump and the whole country saw that they had an agenda.
Call Roto Rooter.
It was possibly no more evident than in the televised debates.
The idiots thought the whole nation was as behind them as were their daily viewers. In trying to expose Trump, they hung themselves on their own petard in front of the whole nation.
It’s gonna be hard trying to find somebody who will give Latrine Jean-Pierre a bath.
LOL!!
Is Helen still around?
It’s time to just get rid of in-person press conferences and repurpose the current press room as much-needed office space.
I believe the room used to be the location of the indoor pool where JFK used to knock off those four office girls when Jackie thought he was leading the space race, getting the missiles out of Cuba, or desegregating schools.
Nixon had it repurposed as the old press room was a crowded mess and not very telegenic. His gracious gesture resulted in very fair treatment by US media. /rimshot!
Virtual presence is how things are done in plenty of work contexts now, and more news outlets and purveyors could then participate. MOST of the time prerecorded releases would just appear on the White House streaming feed.
Cleanse?
On the same day as the thread for the story of that man who never washes.
Good tie in.
I would like to see people such as a Joe Rogan representative in a front row chair at the daily briefing.
As we used to say, it’s not dead yet, but it’s on the cart.
Like 7 out of the 8 front row seats in the press room offered Jen Psaki a job immediately after she left.
I see the now named "Legacy News Media" used to be called something
else made it into "The American Thinker" without a peep about being
manipulated into buying into the left's newest let's come up with a new
term straight outa Marx. You know, like "Climate Change" was getting
old and "The Climate Crisis" really puts a cutting edge on the issue.
So, it's "The Legacy Media" and from now on, make sure to stick your
nose in the air, arch your eyebrows and speak in reverent tones when
you utter the term, "The Legacy Media"
thanx for not including a photo...
I detest the Washington Press Corps (WHPC). The sooner they’re gone, the better.
Most of the reporters are left-wing political hacks. Democrat voters love the WHPC.
Republican voters wonder why their issues and concerns aren’t addressed. It’s been going on for decades.
Similar to left-wing hacks moderating presidential debates. Decades.
ROFLMAO!
