NORTHSTATE, Calif. — Northstate leaders are responding to President Donald Trump's executive order, which plans to reroute water from Northern California to the southern part of the state.
Trump has signed the order, directing agencies to divert more water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta to other areas of the state. This is restarting work from his first term.
Trump said it will help people "who desperately need a reliable water supply."

Representatives with Save California Salmon told KRCR this is dealing with a problem that does not exist.
“Right now, in Southern California, it’s been very clear that there’s not an issue with water supply, and the issue is more an issue with infrastructure and climate change, especially when it comes to the fires," Save California Salmon Executive Director Regina Chichizola said. "Californians are in this together. We have fires everywhere... Water is important for fighting fire, and it's very important for our drinking water supplies, but this memorandum will do nothing to help those things." Chichizola said Trump’s order will support large agriculture rather than Southern California communities.
She added that salmon populations, salmon-dependent areas, and water quality in the Northstate could suffer as a result.
Meanwhile, Congressman Doug LaMalfa said he believes saving the water hasn't helped the fish while praising the order.

According to a Farmer I know in Southern CA the paid activist groups like “Save California Salmon” are lying thru their teeth.
There are, have been and will be serious water issues due to wack job activist like those at “Save California Salmon” running the CA State Government

HOLY CRAP! No wonder CA has such a huge deficient.
I wonder what that job pays?

The water wars have been going on in the West since agriculture first arrived. Common sense says build more reservoirs to collect the Spring snow thaws and rain runoff, rather than expect nature to provide weekly rainfall in an arid land. Do not waste or discard precious water into the ocean, which humans know is one of the most essential resources for life. Put any excess water onto the land for agriculture rather than discarding it into the ocean. Humans are so shortsighted, they never panic about water until they turn the spigot and nothing comes out.

“the issue is more an issue with infrastructure and climate change,”
If they didn’t have “climate change”, what would they blame?

I really wish PDJT would stop over simplifying this issue. Not like its “one man one valve”. I also wish they (CA) didn’t have to dump water. So far this year the Sierras are pretty low on snow.

This is a very deceiving article. For one thing, the salmon person is only one sampling of opinions. For another, there is no locality named Northstate which is implied in the dateline. I reside in the Northern part of California and I am fully in agreement with the order. Every once in a while I go to the American River to watch the spawning salmon. They are not in danger. The Folsom Dam releases water from the bottom of the lake to make cold water for the salmon but I believe most of the salmon that swim back to the area below the dam were born in the hatchery.

She added that salmon populations, salmon-dependent areas...
I wasn’t aware there were ‘salmon-dependent areas’ in California.

Just a thought. If you clear cut and remove the brush from forests there probably won’t be as many fires that get out of control. Silly, isn’t it?

The CA State Department of Water Resources (DWR) and the Federal U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) for 25 years have reduced delta water deliveries to the Central Valley and Southern California for Salmon and Smelt protection by more than 70% on average from when the water projects were built, and the fish populations have not been helped by shutting off the water diversions. Biological opinions authored by leftist biologists have forced this by weaponizing the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and ignored the real problems. Their own rules pit the smelt agains the salmon. Non native stripers eat smelt and juvenile salmon with nothing done to the stripers. Bay Area cities dump waste water into the delta that kills the critters that the smelt feed on. Turning off the Banks and Tracey pumping plants for the San Luis and Delta Mendota Canals has proven of no real benefit. The rice farmers up north like the water flow going out to the ocean to stop salt water intrusion from the bay into the delta. Even under normal weather conditions up to 15 million acre feet of water goes out to the ocean. We are talking about diverting less than 3% to 4% of that amount. It is freaking nuts that the Courts have sided with the wrong data for to long. Lake Shasta for the federal contractors and Orville for the State contractors both the largest reservoirs up north were constructed to stop flooding in the State and for AG and municipal water use and not for fish. I worked for Westlands Water District for 20 years buying and transferring water for farmers between the Exchange Contractors, Friant Contractors, State Contractors, , Northern water rights holders, private land owners, Cities with excess water supplies, etc...and fought the bureaucracies and CEQA and NEPA and DWR and USBR water rules for two decades and the rules for water conveyance and transfer because of the fish could fill the entire hall of Congress. So many say it is too impossible and too complicated to just say it is only a simple smelt problem. ut when it comes down to the nitty gritty truth that is the true reason. So when news media and others complain Trump over simplifies the issue by only calling it a smelt problem, they are wrong and he is correct. You can't spend 24 hours explaining the history and rules and biological opinions to the American people about delta water flow. You can as Trump has pointed out that it really does all come down to a little delta fish that is found all over the planet and the water pumps are not why it is declining in the delta. Eco wackos and leftist biologists use it as a target species to weaponize the ESA laws to stop the water for political reasons. So you go right on telling the truth President Trump that stupid people have been making stupid decisions for too long about a stupid little fish used as a weapon to stop the water flow south.
Amen and Hallelujah.

Salmon are an unrepresented and marginalized constituency in California. It is time to provide these disenfranchised pisceans with a rightful place in habitats of their own, and a voice in state government, in order to serve them.

Pelosi’s water comes from Hetch Hetchy reservoir with a direct line to the SF area. It’s a valley in Yosemite National Park. By the way, John Muir ran a sawmill in the park.
