Trump’s blanket Jan. 6 pardons STUN Republicans on Capitol Hill
The Hill ^ | 01/22/25 6:00 AM ET | by Alexander Bolton

President Trump’s sweeping pardons of more than 1,500 people charged with crimes related to the Capitol riot of Jan. 6, 2021, including individuals who assaulted police officers, stunned Republican lawmakers who witnessed firsthand the chaos on Capitol Hill four years ago.

Trump’s action, which defied assurances from his allies that he would examine convictions on a case-by-case basis and not grant clemency to people who committed violence, divided GOP senators and overshadowed talk about his first-100-days agenda.

GOP lawmakers are largely willing to overlook the hundreds of people who entered the Capitol illegally four years ago, which disrupted the certification of former President Biden’s victory by several hours, but pardoning people who assaulted Capitol Police, causing dozens of injuries, was hard to swallow.

“It is wrong to pardon individuals convicted of violent crime, especially when many of the victims of their violence were law enforcement officers,” Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) said in a statement.

They went there to protest a stolen election. Hopefully we get some real trials for the scum who stole it. I know there are 2000 Mules they can start with.

I don’t see how any Republican could be stunned by this, Trump has been saying for quite a while he was going to pardon all the 1/6 defendants.

If some were genuinely caught off guard by this move, they are even more stupid than we believe.

Why are they shocked? Most of these people have spent YEARS IN JAIL already, even with no conviction. Even someone who assaulted a cop would not serve 4 years in prison these days. You can count on one hand the number of 2020 rioters who DID assault a cop and got far less, if anything at all.

But the most egregious sentences - 16 and 22 years for Rhodes and Tarrio - we completely absurd, and no GOP Senator should defend it.

The letter after the name means jack anymore.

The only reason political parties still exist is to give voters the illusion of choice.

A pol is either loyal to our republic or to Deep State.

Which is it, Congress?

No concern at all for the victims OF violence BY law enforcement officers.

I was originally thinking more along the lines of Vance’s statement of pardoning only “non violent” offenders and looking at the rest case by case, but after “Biden” pardoned the Jan 6 committee, his own family and cop killers I’m completely on board with a mass pardon.

Definition of Non-violent J6 prisoners:

Any protester who was non-violent before the Capital police fired rubber bullets without warning into them while outside of the Capital building at 1:10 pm.

Republicans who were part of the “the steal”, the coverup, and the J6 charade are now greatly concerned about consequences. One can only hope the gathering of evidence of the wrongdoing has been going on for the last 4 years and the prosecutions can begin soon.

The J6ers all went through sham legal proceedings, just like Trump. But unlike Trump, they didn’t have millions to spend on their defense. Thank God for president Trump.
99% Fed conviction rate. That’s a scam worse even than the 80-90% rate that dictators get in an “election”

If they are stunned then they were all in with the conspiracy. It was a no brainer to pardon them and even they should be locked up for aiding and abetting the criminal conspiracy in the first place.
