"There is something called a secret golden share that every Chinese company has to issue to the CCP leadership. That's Xi [Jinping] himself, and it turns out that ByteDance can't negotiate anything unless he's made a decision," the O'Leary Ventures Chairman told "Mornings with Maria" guest host Cheryl Casone.
"The secret share is a veto power over all other shareholders," he explained. "They do not have any rights once the secret share has been issued, so now we're dealing with what to do with the secret share, because until she decides what's going to happen, it doesn't matter what shareholders think or the CEO or any of the management, it's irrelevant. It's the secret golden share that determines the fate of TikTok now."

Kinda Willie Wonkish
Embraer (ERJ) had something similar where a ‘Golden Share’ was owned by the Brazilian military (might still be the case).
That would not be necessary then.
Idiocy.
I hope Trump is aware of this and I hope Kevin O’Leary has access to the president if need be. O’Leary is sharp.
O’Leary was with Trump the other weekend alongside Alberta Premier Danielle Smith.
O’Leary is Canadian by the way he has an interest in the tariff issue.
Thanks for the info. I know he’s Canadian and how much he detests Trudeau.
I think China as owns 20%.
Yet for some reason that’s not a problem when nearly ALL of our drugs come from there, when Boeing want’s to build jets there, Tesla want’s to make things there. When Iphones are made there.
None of that is a risk, because DC and their friends are cashing in.
Mr Wonderful is full of it. He wants to buy it without he algorithm and thinks it’s basically no different than Meta Reels or YouTube shorts.
For some reason I thought Embraer was Canadian. So I just looked it up and I was wrong. You’re correct.
Makes sense, sort of, for a socialist country to have veto share. Though I suppose Raytheon is also beholden even if they don’t have a literal golden share.
In business school many moons ago I had to do a ‘case study’ on an ADR business and chose Embraer - the only reason I know the ‘golden share’ issue.
CRJ is Canadair Regional Jet (Bombardier) - perhaps the reason for confusion.
i believe it was a military spin-off
This ChiCom “Golden Share” stuff is quite important. But it’s not really a secret. Even Wikipedia has an entry on the topic. And one section is dedicated specifically to Communist China.

Very interesting.
Not as worried about the Brazilian War Machine as about the CCP..
47 said that TT could be worth $1 trillion. But that depends on being OKed, then its worthless. If OKed then the US could be a partner for $500 billion gained from the sale. But then that all depends on Beijing.
Read recently (likely here on FR) that Iran has a strong presence in Venezuela, and as I watched President Trump last night tell of CCP China controlling the Panama Canal, no I did not know of that one.
Kinda have to laugh though because the Panama Canal was in serious, serious trouble moving cargo through this past year because of the severely low water levels, lack of rainfall. Not toward the United States in any way shipping or receiving any much-needed product, but I’ll bet CCP China was having expletive-laden tirades because their container ships full of cheap crap couldn’t go through the level locks.
The President also talked of Carter “giving away the Panama Canal” (I think to Panama?) and it was, again, paraphrasing, a very bad decision.
President Trump did say about Brazil, in paraphrase, that they (Brazil) may need us but we do not need them—per an answer to a reporter who answered him that she was from Brazil.
