Trump signs promised executive action to delay TikTok ban for 75 days

As he promised Sunday, President Donald Trump on Monday signed an executive action that delays enforcement of the TikTok ban for 75 days.

The action directs the US Justice Department not to enforce the Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, which passed with broad bipartisan support in Congress and was signed in April by former President Joe Biden. The law required that starting January 19, TikTok be banned in the United States unless it sells to a buyer from America or one of its allies.

The law gives the president broad discretion on how to enforce the ban. Trump’s promise in a Truth Social post that he would sign an executive action Monday so that the law will not be enforced – including for ban violations that took place before he became president – was sufficient enough for TikTok, which shut itself down for about 14 hours Saturday night into Sunday, to go back online Sunday afternoon.

“The unfortunate timing of section 2(a) of the Act — one day before I took office as the 47th President of the United States — interferes with my ability to assess the national security and foreign policy implications of the Act’s prohibitions before they take effect,” Trump’s executive action said. “This timing also interferes with my ability to negotiate a resolution to avoid an abrupt shutdown of the TikTok platform while addressing national security concerns.”

The action says the 75 day delay will help the Trump administration attempt to “determine the appropriate course forward in an orderly way that protects national security while avoiding an abrupt shutdown of a communications platform used by millions of Americans.”

I don’t use Tik Tok so my question is why do they want to bring it back so bad?

Unconstitutional. It is the law of the land and should go back to Congress for repealing.

Will Chicoms sell?

Doubt it.

Ha ha in all the morons who invested in a company run by a communist government who care nothing about fiduciary duty.

They haven’t banned facebook and they hate America as much as the Chinese do.

1st Amendment first of all, bitch-slapping the RINO congress that passed it in the first place.

“Unconstitutional. It is the law of the land and should go back to Congress for repealing.”

It sure is... It does not matter who owns it. It violates the rights of the U.S. citizen users and businesses who benefit from it. It violates freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and commercial enterprise.

Supposedly a clause allows the “sitting president” to pause the ban up to 90 days.

Seems like Trump's strategy is to force Bytedance to sell 50% to an American company.

But knowing Bytedance, they're not going to sell.

Interesting, Trump gave himself an extra 15 days if he can't work out a solution by the end of this order.

Because it’s fun, informative and 10x better qualitatively, the creators get paid FAR better than on Reels, Instagram or whatever.
It’s positive and learns what you wanna see. So pretty soon you see really good music, some good cooking ideas, things about the old west, interesting home projects. 10 minute clips of Christian sermons, historical things, travel destination advice, you name it.
And it is an absolute hotbed of conservative thought, punditry and thinking.

It’s preferred by around 170 million Americans for a reason.
I’ve never seen a site so slandered.
The “security risk” is that the NSA/CIA/FBI complex doesn’t get secret access and a desk at TikTok HQ. Also it was annihilating META in the marketplace.

About a million Americans made between 15 and 25k a year making videos. That seems like a joke to DC, but it mattered to them.

That is why they want it back.

It’s illegal to walk across the border illegally also. Biden just flipped the finger to it and told the Border Patrol and ICE to ignore the black letter law.

Why is it any more incumbent upon Trump to meticulously enforce this one?

If TikTok has to divest, every Congressman should have to divest from Meta stock.

If China is so dangerous, Big Pharma should have to divest from manufacturing all our Rx drugs there. Boeing, Tesla, and Apple should be forced to stp all business with the CCP. Our universities should be forbidden from accepting Chinese nationals as students. China isn’t too dangerous to buy 400k acres of good farmland here.

Funny how China isn’t so dangerous when the elites want something for themselves.

They haven’t banned Canadian Pornhub. They pipe in the most vile porn imaginable to any child with a cell phone, no age verification required. The average 10 year old boy today has seen more sex an nudity than Caligula did in his entire life.
I mean rape, drunk women, homosexuality, orgies, underage, you name it.

DC is fine with that.

“Unconstitutional. It is the law of the land and should go back to Congress for repealing.”

Yeah? It was against the law to show 10 year old kids pictures of homo blowjobs.
It was against the law to cross the border. Biden not only ignored it, but sent out people to organize the migration around the world. He blatantly ignored any law he pleased.

So as I see it, now Trump can do it as he pleases too.

Big tech is porn or selling Viagra. The wealth has nothing to do with technology. It is unsustainable.

And if they dont....tik tok loses a great deal of value if banned in US. However, it does not become completely worthless.

And there is a benefit to China spying with it in other countries so China may say no sale.

170 million Americans use TikTok. Apparently, seven million small US businesses use TikTok.

Shut it down, they'll going to call Congress.

Bytedance is aware that constituents will put political pressure on their elected officials.
