As Los Angeles burned, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration plotted an elaborate rescue mission—for a supposed endangered form of trout. “One of our biggest concerns,” a state Department of Fish and Wildlife manager told the Los Angeles Times last week, is “losing that last population of fish.”

What happened to the snail darter
If I declare as some unique variety of gender-trans, am I then endangered and protected?
Yeah, heard on the local radio today that there were crews cleaning out the brush near Pacific Palisades - a hiker in the area who was a biologist found some rare endangered plant stomped on - reported it, a lawsuit was filed, the city of LA had to pay out and all brush clearance in the area was stopped.
That endangered bush is now burned up in the fire.
Even now, there is more fish in aquarium than in river.
Smelt is functionally extinct.
And the pumps were not the biggest fish problem.
The introduced (invasive) bass (and other invasive fish) found them tasty and consumed most of them!
Come to think about it, the delta smelt is actually a desert river fish, which can survive complete lack of water (fish does not, but its eggs will), but the bass is not.
So shutting the water for some time may actually save the smelt!
This is not about saving the delta smelt.
It is about finding a way to route massive amounts of water for irrigation to certain humongous (nut) farm owners (the Reznicks and Pelosis) without detection.
Nuts are a very dense food source and require plenty of water.
Dams were torn down/ opened up to ensure a maximum flow of water .
Monitors were installed and laws were made to regulate the water intake by others. This would prevent these others from complaining about dwindling water sources downstream from the nut farms.
It was sold to the public as a way to protect the delta smelt. Did they save any? No one knows because they aren’t tracking the smelt. Why pay to track something you don’t really care about , especially since 100-10000 species/forms of animals and plants go extinct EVERY YEAR.
There were monitored and non-monitored intakes of water. The non-monitored cost the farm(s) nothing (can’t charge for what you don’t monitor).
This meant a hefty profit for those nut farm owners, who used part of it to donate for the politicians they own so that politician can stay in power and perpetuate the lies and theft of water. More money was used to bribe those who monitor water usage to make this whole scheme work.
Since there was no way to monitor how much water got back to the ocean, there was no way anyone could prove that water was being siphoned off for the benefit of a few while the rest were told to suck it up and pay more for what they were ‘allowed’.
It would still be working if not for those darn Santa Anna Winds and massive amounts of kindling that homeowners were forced to leave in place by law.
