... Monterey County officials say that the fire that erupted at the Moss Landing Power Plant Thursday night was difficult to fight because it was centered on a bank of Tesla batteries.
“It is unknown how long this incident may last,” county spokeswoman Maia Carroll said. “No active fire suppression is taking place, the batteries must burn themselves out. No water can be used. This is standard action for battery fires.”...

( i thought i saw media denying it wad a tesla product burning?, or was it another safe green battery lethally toxic fire ? i lose count cuz these batteries keep bursting into unquenchable fires and hazardous smoke hazards )
Ping!
My son and I are going to go to the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am next weekend. Guess we won’t be headed down Hwy 1.
There was NEVER a fire like that at the plant in all the years it operated burning gas. That battery fire is putting out more toxic air pollution in a few days (or weeks) than the entire Moss Landing plant put out in all of its 50 years of operation.
Why are a bank of Tesla batteries sitting at a power plant?

communities need to start civil suiting these clowns
and stripping bonds from others .
What chemicals are released into the atmosphere?
CARB is not regulating these releases [toxic pollution]?
It’s added a wonderfully acrid smell here in SCruz county.
I just luv the smell of Lithium in the morning.
(apologies to Col. Kilgore)
Those Batteries are burning real good.....
As I’ve noted before, the ONLY significant requirement for a large battery backup system is to be able to tie-into a high voltage line, somewhere, anywhere (the grid takes care of sending the power where it is demanded).
But these operations keep locating in POPULATED AREAS, which is sickening. In this case it was at the site of an old powerplant. Obviously they figured they could use the high-voltage connection to save money, and they get the city/state to let them do just that. As to why they keep getting away with this - it might be as simple as local/state governments wanting to put these facilities IN OUR FACES, much as they do when they position ‘the homeless’ at traffic intersections.
Newcome should be on his knees in a church
“I did some maintenance work at the Moss Landing plant in the early 70s. Those units burned natural gas, a very clean fuel.”
Wow. All that comes out of burning natural gas is water and CO2 - the locals never had a worry then. Now their homes may smell like crap FOR MONTHS.
The power plant no longer operates. It was a natural gas fired plant operated by Duke Energy, bought from PG&E.
Was used by Tesla and Vistra corp. as a power storage facility since there is significant solar power generated in California which requires back-up when you know...the sun isn’t shining.
The Tesla bank is allegedly not on fire, just the Vistra bank.
They serve as “fuel tanks” by storing unused solar and wind generated electricity when it’s created and then releasing it to the grid when it’s needed.
I'd bet it's not pretty.
I’ve never understood, is Highway 1 and the Pacific Coast Highway the same thing?
When did the plant convert from oil to gas? Got a tour in the late ‘90s. They had the low pressure turbines open for maintenance. As a Mech. Eng. it was like Mecca.
So many are getting this wrong because they hate Elon.
