Strong winds once again fueled a Southern California brush fire on Monday evening, pushing the Auto Fire to spread through the Santa Clara Riverbed in Ventura dozens of firefighters worked to gain the upper hand.

This is a smaller fire in a river bed with LOTS of vegetation, 4 choppers and many ground crews on it. Many frequent and spectacular night-time water drops. KCAL reporter says the Chinook carries 5000 gallons?

Hopefully the firefighters get this one quenched before the winds ramp up.

The water has to be a source very near by, judging by the frequency of the drops. Possibly it’s the river itself, in a clear area — in a couple views I spotted reflections off the surface of what must be the river itself. Apparently it’s down in level but not run dry.

i just heard tv news say air drops of fire retardant are not allowed over endangered critter habitats unless human life or property are threatened.

so

a 1 acre fire in a protected habitat will not be air dropped

how about when it grows to a 5 acre ?

when it becomes a 100 acre ?

how about when it becomes a 1000 acre fire that is about to consume a town or city

yes.

so let a 1 acre fire in a protected habitat burn and possibly turn into a life threatening fire , THEN HOPE it doesnt grow into a city killer.
