There Is No Bottom for Blue California
Town Hall ^ | 13 Jan 2025 | Kurt Schlichter

After a fire that never should have happened burned thousands of houses to the ground in a liberal enclave of Los Angeles through a combination of Democrat incompetence and more Democrat incompetence, you might ask yourself whether the deep blue people of Los Angeles are ever going to come to their senses and start electing people who aren’t a bunch of communist morons more concerned with Ghana junkets and lesbian representation at the fire department then with actually doing their jobs. Don’t bother asking. The answer is “No.” They’re never going to change. They can’t change. They’re going to keep on electing the same brand of Democrat mediocrities who got them into this mess, but they do have a plan. They’re going to blame the weather, insurance companies that don’t want to lose money, Donald Trump, and anything but themselves for the chaos they voted for.

If California’s Democrats didn’t have their incompetence, they wouldn’t have any kind of competence at all.

People ask me if California has finally hit bottom, but there’s a problem with that premise. The problem is that it assumes that there is a bottom and that hitting the bottom would result in some sort of directional change in the downward trajectory of what was once the greatest state in the Union. But there is no bottom, not for them. You need to understand that. These Democrats are not concerned with governing, so their complete inability to do it is utterly irrelevant to the analysis. Being competent and governing wisely was never the objective. Instead, the elite is concerned with power, and the leftists who vote for them – whose houses are now all burned down – are only concerned with the failures of government when it comes and bites them...

Chantal Delsol, in her landmark Unlearned Lessons of the Twentieth Century has an excellent perspective on refusal of the Left to face reality:

Vital resistance and resentment are the two main responses to the events of 1989 (Delsol refers here to the collapse of the old Soviet Union - WD). Vital resistance: the mind realizes its mistake - it admits, for example, that nationalization of the means of production does not produce a happy society, but rather laziness and constant shortages; it refuses, however, to let go of the idea because of its passionate attachment to it. Existence - adventures, friendships, successes - is nourished and permeated by this belief to such an extent that the belief becomes an identity; the individual cannot renounce it without committing a kind of symbolic suicide. No one can admit... that his existence reflects the echo of a failure.
In other words, no one wants to admit that the premises upon which one has constructed their entire raison d’être amounts to an empty, shrieking fraud. But it's a lesson that will go unlearned by most of them until it is far, far too late.

And here we are...

What’s going to happen is an even more segregated society, the truly wealthy will start to hire their own police force and Fire Fighters to protect the houses and neighborhoods, the rest of the serfs will have to fend for themselves.

When the hysteria over this fire settles down, you will the California politicians blaming Climate Change, Racism, Trump, basically anything to deflect from their incompetence, they have already started Newsom is working overtime to salvage any political career he has left and Karen Bass should she run for anything else will have that clip of her freezing when a reporter badgers her getting off the plane from Ghana.

I agree with the writer, most liberals never learn they just double down and stay angry at others. Which is why more moderate people (like me) leave liberal areas and enjoy better lives.

With liberals, the issue is never the issue, the issue is always the revolution.

Basically modern-day South Africa.

I think sometimes things are too broken to ever recover. California may be like that.

People can’t comprehend their error if they are indoctrinated. My Ca. Central Valley aunt is a perfect example. She is in awful heath at only about 70, had a stroke this summer and has type 2 diabetes etc.

She will talk about the horrors of San Fran, the human excrement on the streets, the homeless , the 2nd Gen Hispanic gangs (and you open borders types take note—only takes one generation for their kids to spoil) , the economy and rising cost.

Then in the very next second she will gush about how great Gavin Newsom is and Bernie Sanders “That Dear old man”.

She will die that way—A Leopard can’t change its spots.

it’s very hard to ask somebody to admit they were wrong about everything they ever believed. It’s much easier to blame someone else. See, it’s not the total ineptitude of the California Democrats who run everything that is the problem. The problem is Donald Trump pointing it out and not being nice when he does it.

I posted this yesterday:

Newsom is desperate to save his political career.

His argument is essentially that they since they were politically obligated to do whatever was opposite to what President Trump was saying; anything that Trump says about anything amounts to "politicizing."

Democrats fit the definition of insanity in that they keep doing the same things whilst expecting different results.

As such, I judge the probability of CA altering their present death spiral spin to be zero. ‘Tis best to sit back, enjoy the spectacle, and await cleaning up the sewage that will be California-mort and starting anew with sentient beings coupoled with a civilization worth living in.
