President-elect Donald Trump is not planning a military invasion of Greenland, nor should he. However, he does actually make sense when he suggests that the United States should try to acquire Greenland from Denmark peacefully. Trump and Congress should look closely into how much Greenland would be worth to this country and examine whether it would be worthwhile to offer to buy it from Denmark for an appropriate price.
U.S. purchases of territory have a long and beneficial history. The Louisiana Purchase of 1803 doubled the nation’s territory in one fell swoop. The 1819 Florida Purchase, the 1848 Mexican Cession, the 1853 Gadsden Purchase, and the 1867 Alaska Purchase all proved to be wise moves for the U.S. while bringing beneficent government to those lands. And the U.S. even has a history of buying from Denmark itself, in the $25 million purchase of what would become the Virgin Islands in 1917.
As for Greenland, it would be of more use to the U.S. than it is to tiny Denmark. Its land mass of 836,000 square miles, bigger than Alaska and California combined, dwarfs Denmark’s own, making it almost unmanageable for the Danes long term. And its strategic military benefits to Denmark are virtually nil because Denmark will not be a major player in “great power” competition regardless. For the U.S., though, and for world peace and freedom, a purchase of Greenland could be a great boon. Indeed, twice before, in 1867 and 1946, U.S. officials seriously considered buying the huge island.
The U.S. already operates a long-standing military facility there, the Pituffik Space Base (formerly known as the Thule Air Base), which conducts important satellite operations and keeps tabs on any Russian missile launch, which assuredly would cross over the Arctic...

Greenland is a liability in the hands of the Danes. But an asset for the USA. Logic says that the basic preconditions for a deal are present. This could be the biggest real estate deal in Trump’s career.
It is my understanding that the people of Greenland want to be independent and if they want to shift from Denmark, they can.. And the leader is very willing to talk to President Trump.
Untold natural resources…literally, because large areas have not even been explored. Trump knows a lot more than he’s saying publicly, all part of the deal. And there’s no reason Denmark couldn’t be a strategic partner that would far better serve the Danish people than the present arrangement.
Make Denmark pay us to take it off their hands.
Squirrels everywhere, start with cutting spending, stopping illegal aliens, sending all illegal out of the country, and cutting government.
It just might be worthwhile...as a post to patrol the Atlantic and the Arctic. If Congress approves and Denmark agrees then it just might happen. Otherwise it won’t.
Because of their belief in global warming and climate change, we can build hundreds of seaside resorts near the artic pole. They say the glaciers are disappearing, and the ice receding. Perfect for new vacation spots on new beaches.
Meanwhile, we need more ice-breakers, USA only has one while Russia is ahead with a dozen or so. Build the resorts before the Russians or Chinese do it!
A look at the arctic map from above the north pole looking down, one sees fully half the arctic circle on Russia’s north coast. The other half is bounded by Alaska, Canada, and Greenland. Trump wisely foresees the coming competition for the arctic region, and wants our side to be secure.
This is along the lines of a family making family $50k/year. They are $400k in debt. The father is now declaring he wants to buy a large ranch.
“Trump knows a lot more than he’s saying publicly, all part of the deal”
I agree with you.
Change it back to Thule. I’m tired of woke air bases.
.
Actually, we had three.. USCGC Polar Star, USCGC Polar Sea, and USCGC Healy. Of the three, only Polar Star is in operation. Five of six of Polar Sea's engines are mostly destroyed, and it's basically being used for parts for Polar Star. Healy suffered a fire last year, and is currently awaiting repairs in Seattle.
Denmark frantically messages Trump about security concessions on Greenland after he threatened to take it over: report
Think Putin will help Denmark resist America after Denmark gave such help to Mr. Zelensky? How many Russians were killed by Dainish shells? Nope. When Putin and Trump meet they may sit down and cut up the world. “Trump, you get Greenland and Panama (that will tic off Xi Chuckle chuckle) I get Half of Ukraine and maybe Belarus too. Maybe half of Lithuania, only the half where the Russians live, mind you.” “Just as long as I get Canada.” “Mr. Trump, I will toss in Cuba for free.” Both sing There’s a bright big beautiful tomorrow song.
I like those Dansk Butter Cookies with coffee or hot tea. I hope all this Iceland drama doesn’t screw that up.
And we lost the Russian King Crab when Biden banned Russian seafood imports.
This retarded war is really impacting me.
