fire, LA, The Unfightable Fire

In an ember storm, every opening in a house is a portal to hell. A vent without a screen, a crack in the siding, a missing roof tile—each is an opportunity for a spark to smolder. A gutter full of dry leaves is a cradle for an inferno. Think of a rosebush against a bedroom window: fire food. The roses burn first, melting the vinyl seal around the window. The glass pane falls. A shoal of embers enter the house like a school of glowing fish. Then the house is lost.

As the Palisades Fire, just 8 percent contained this morning, and the Eaton Fire, still uncontained, devour Los Angeles neighborhoods, one thing is clear: Urban fire in the U.S. is coming back. For generations, American cities would burn in era-defining conflagrations: the Great Chicago Fire in 1871, the San Francisco fires of 1906. Then came fire-prevention building codes, which made large city burns a memory of a more naive time. Generations of western firefighters turned, instead, toward wildland burns, the big forest devastations. An urban conflagration was the worst-case scenario, the one they hoped they’d never see. And for a long time, they mostly didn’t.

The left, fearing the consequences of this gigantic screw up, begins a counterattack with this piece of absolute drivel from the Atlantic.

I feel for those who lost their homes. But it pisses me off that Biden says we’re going to pay the entire 150 billion dollars towards this. Makes musk have to make even more cuts elsewhere.

Ah, yes, the old “spreading the blame” trick…

New York Times is out today with a “scientist say” article blaming “Climate Change” for the lack of water in Los Angeles hydrants.

Who is the fire chief who did not know how water gets to the hydrant? Is this for real?

After reading this, the wife and I decided to move out of our house-fire trap. We are now digging a tunnel to live in. Hopefully we will be safe there.

A true story regarding sparks. As a boy my Dad had a shop with bare 2x4 wall covered with 1x8 boards. It was a very old building and all that bare interior wood was very dry and full of cracks a spark could land in and start a fire. We both arc welded, which throws countless hot sparks. And we used metal grinders which throws hot sparks several feet. Not to mention using a cutting torch. We never had a single fire.

I do not do that in my own shop. All welding, grinding and cutting is done in a much safer environment.

The time to fight the fire was before the point of ignition.

Biden can say and promise anything he wants. Doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.

Ultimately, the lefties will blame Climate Change for the fires and that will be the end of it.

I currently have five air purifiers running on full blast inside my So Cal home. My cat came in coughing last night after being out in the yard for a few minutes. The air outside is hazy and I have a permanent “unhealthy air quality, stay inside” alert on my phone right now.

Still, I am one of the lucky ones. My home is still standing and two evacuation notices have been rescinded. People near me are getting notices to boil water, and the power is still on. Neighbors had their power restored last night after it went out Tuesday at 8 PM.

Every CA politician and public/private power broker needs to remember:

“There is no more dangerous a man than one that has lost everything and has nothing left to lose.”

and especially:

“There is no more dangerous place on Earth than between a mother and her child you threaten.”

Unfightable? Water has been known to put out most fires. Not so much on EV battery fires though.

PRESIDENT OR NOT——BIDEN DOES NOT HAVE THIS POWER.

FEMA STILL HASN’T HELPED THE HURRICANE VICTIMS IN NC.

AMISH CAME IN & BUILD TINY HOUSES.

AUTHORITIES SAY THEY CANNOT BE OCCUPIED-—NOT BUILT TO “CODE”

AMISH HAVE BEEN BUILDING HOUSES FOR GENERATIONS-—VERY FINE CRAFTSMEN..HAVE seen their work.

These liberals need to take a course on anatomy. Women are not built to be Firefighters. Where men have upper body muscle mass women have breast tissue. They need to hire strong men to do the job, period.
