Dresden in Los Angeles and our Confederacy of Dunces
X ^ | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 01/11/2025 4:19:52 AM PST by RoosterRedux

LA is burning. And the derelict people responsible are worried that they are found out as charlatans and empty suits.

The leftwing voters who enabled them are getting angry over the inferno that their chosen politicos green-lighted—as if they are shocked, shocked by the consequences of their voting.

The dam buster Nero Newsom made his accustomed fiddling appearance and then split—when the media began pointing out that he prohibits new reservoirs, sends precious water out to sea, blows up dams, prevents precautionary gleaning of forests and chaparrals, and then usually blames “Climate change” or “Trump” when called to account.

Poor Karen Bass was DEI-ing in Uganda after being previously warned that lack of rain, record winds, and kindling-like hillsides put her city in existential danger: Out of sight, out of mind.

Or did she junket across the world to consult about fire prevention with Ghana’s new president?

Was slashing nearly $18 million from the $50 billion city budget, after bragging about creating “451 new positions” in various woke/DEI fields, a way to prevent 25-square miles of Dresden-like desolation?

The embattled Fire Chief Kristen Crowley for two years has bragged not of response time, not of preventive strategies to stop fires, not of slashed budgets and water shortages, but instead about her DEI credentials as the “first” (fill in the blanks) LGBTQ etc. woman, who has hired “70 percent” of her force as either nonwhite, or nonmale, or nonbinary, or non-old fashioned, tough-guy firefighters.

The LA utility head? Usually AWOL. The permanent director of LA infrastructure is usually quickly fired or resigns for incompetence, bribery, or malfeasance.

Joe Biden? He was there—but only to try to put thousands of acres of federal land off-limits to roadblock the evil incoming Trump administration.

Just like Lahaina, Blackrock can now come in and buy the firebombed property up for pennies on the dollar.

This was no accident.

This was a plan.

Nero Newsom

Perfect. I doubt the voters are capable of learning a damned thing unfortunately.

The well to do that live in this area should lawyer up and personally destroy each and every government official who is responsible

Absolutely.

The Mayor, the Governor, and many others can be indicted in criminal court and sued in civil court for gross negligence for ignoring clear risks, failing to act when action was legally or ethically required, or acting in ways that contributed to the risk of fires (like promotion of DEI over ability and moving money dedicated to fire safety like reservoirs and fire training to other frivolous programs).

Democrats are incapable of governing anything, not even a city fire department.

Trump should take LA and the rest of CA into federal control for the stated purpose of protecting the citizens since democrats have proven that they can’t.

It looks like a few Democrats are going to have to deal with criticism. Probably for the first time in their lives.

Looks like Dresden, doesn’t it? Biden’s “20 Million” have got to go and the money being wasted on them partying in America needs to be used to rebuild California FOR AMERICANS. Screw the “immigrants” they have homes to go home to. Californians don’t! I don’t know the name of that commie bastard arranging the “Trump Proofing” session on FOX this morning but his ass needs to be gone. He cares nothing for the People of California. Get rid of the azho.

Nothing will change in terms of voting patterns. Kalifornia is the first and foremost leader of communism in America and they are there to stay.

Hopefully the good that became of this disaster is it spoils Newscum’s chance to be President. But 2028 is so far down the road for narrow minds that lefty voters will likely have forgotten the LA fire by then.

There were too many individual fires started for it not to be a plan.

I’m sorry to say this but if there was one place that was going to burn I would have hoped it to be Hollywood. These celebs deserve their comeuppance.

Let’s see how far the “misinformation” defense gets the dunces in court.

When you look at the maps of the inferno, you may notice, that this is mainly a FOREST fire.
Despite the huge property destruction, the most affected are actually the State parks, Wilderness and Angeles National Forest areas surrounding LA.
All that “protected nature” is going up in flames and spreading from there into residential areas.

It seems to be a trend, the more protected an area is, the more it is prone to fires!
All we need is more protection!

For every celebrity’s house that burned down, there are a hundred nobodies that are now homeless. I can’t find a single reason to not feel for them all.

But from whom?

From homeowners who are fully insured?

From homeowners who have no fire insurance and instead of an asset now indebted by a mortgage to the bank?

From the bank, forced to foreclose on uninsured properties and will no doubt do so by bidding a single dollar or, more likely, the dollar value of the mortgage?

From the trustee in bankruptcy of the bank because there is a catastrophic loss on their books which could not be recouped?

From the state and/or federal agency set up to solve these problems by monetizing it?

Especially true if vote by mail continues in CA.

Yes it was planned. Too many coincidences for it not to be. But I have yet to see any of the woke people who had their homes destroyed call out the woke, DEI, fake climate change BS, or the money being wasted on things other than proper hedges against the devastation..
