As Los Angeles Burns, DeSantis Shows Leadership That Newsom Can’t Match
PJ Media ^ | 9 Jan 2025 | Matt Margolis

In the face of the raging wildfires devastating Los Angeles, it is clear that Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D-Calif.) leadership has fallen short, while Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) has demonstrated what true leadership looks like in times of crisis.

The wildfires currently ravaging Los Angeles County have scorched over 30,000 acres, reduced 2,000 buildings to rubble, and taken at least five lives. At present, the wildfires haven’t been contained, and firefighters have run out of water. The wildfires are proof of devastating incompetence and shortsightedness from the top down, and the fires have destroyed the homes and lives of residents in the Pacific Palisades, Sylmar, and Pasadena.

In response, Newsom’s leadership attempts have been little more than an exercise in deflection. On Wednesday, he held a joint briefing with President Joe Biden and appeared on national media to assure the public that he was on top of the situation. Yet in a critical moment during a CNN interview, Newsom’s words came across as a symbol of Democratic incompetence rather than effective leadership.

As the fire raged behind him, CNN’s Anderson Cooper asked, “What is the situation with the water, obviously, in the Palisades?” referring to reports that fire hydrants had run out of water. Instead of offering a solution, Newsom shifted responsibility for addressing the issue to local authorities. “The local folks are trying to figure that out,” he said.

Emphasis mine.

As the wildfires continue to rage, DeSantis is demonstrating the kind of leadership that Newsom is failing to provide. In times of crisis, true leaders don’t just deflect responsibility — they take action, offer help, and work tirelessly to ensure that their states and citizens are protected.

Newsom is a Dem, and Dems never take responsibility for anything.

People who are badly traumatized by such disasters obtain some comfort that their leaders, elected and appointed officials have done rational policies to prevent and mitigate such disasters. They also find some solace in the help they have come to expect administered by such people. In LA, rational decent people realize that their elected and appointed officials did nothing to prevent or mitigate this disaster and logically have no confidence that they will receive any credible help from them.

Newsome is a total narcissistic sociopath.

He really seems to be enjoying the media attention sycophant media people fawning over his phony crisis management photo opps

It's all about him and the fires and destruction are dramatic props in his self aggrandizing disaster road show exploiting and basking in the glory and drama of the disaster of his own making that he enabled with his negligence and feckless leadership after the last five or six out of control wild fires during his tenure as governor .

The Newscum is definitely making sure the camera angles are capturing his best side for his 2028 campaign commercials.

Democrats like Newsom and Bass think that being an elected Executive means going on vacation.

Seriously, it is as if that having achieved election their task has been accomplished.

I’ve heard some libs (probably just being nostalgic) saying California needs a DeSantis type of Governor. Problem is, no one that sane or with that level of integrity would ever belong to the Dem party for it to nominate.

This has to be Newsom’s worst nightmare.

For years he’s made careful plans. Every word, every move, every
nuance served only one purpose.....to advance his way to the WH.

Now the inferno has exposed his inadequacy.......
and threatens to consume his political ambitions.

At least his ambitions didn't drown, that might have been helpful.

Liberal leftists rule by opportunity to take and pillage out of chaos. Conservatives rule by letting you recover and prosper again. A Phoenix didn’t need federal assistance for $750.
