WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - US President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday expressed understanding of Russia's position, which opposes Ukraine accession to NATO.
"So, you know, a big part of the problem was Russia for many, many years, long before Putin said you could never have NATO involved with Ukraine. Now they have said that that has been like written in stone, and somewhere along the line, [outgoing President Joe] Biden said, no, they should be able to join NATO. Well, then Russia has somebody right on their doorstep. But I can understand their feeling about that," Trump told a press conference in Mar-a-Lago, adding that "there were a lot of mistakes made in that negotiation."

Ukraine will never be a part of NATO.
Never.
Trump will try to return to the Nixon doctrine of balancing relations between China and Russia, and keeping the two of them separated and at arms-length..
Vegetable Biden’s neocon puppet-masters stupidly pushed Russia and China together.
These clowns made an even stupider mistake than Iraq or Afghanistan. We will see if Trump can fix it.
For laughs he should say to let Russia join NATO.
IN! Before Zeepers begin to call Trump a “putinista”
It will all come down to money. Trump is not going to approve money for which there is no tangible return directly to the US — especially during the debt ceiling fight upcoming.
It is that fight which is going to train focus on the consequences in annual interest on each additional billion.
Stop giving away OUR assets to Ukraine...and let Russia sell gas again to the EU. "Z" should NOT be able to cut off the EU by closing their lines. That's political blackmail.
And for goodness sake...stop the climate cr**...and wasting the money that goes with it.
Otherwise, it will cease existing.
For starters, no matter the geopolitical desires of neocons and their great game, Ukraine is horribly corrupt and though they deny it, it is a hotbed of nazi worship and memorials.
It is impossible to integrate them into a group of erstwhile civilized western nations.
How about we agree to not accept Ukraine into NATO until Russia agrees to join as well. Yeah like that will happen. I must admit a certain admiration for the Russian people as being though and resilient not to mention brilliant at times. Having said that I wouldn’t trust them as far as I could throw them.
Its BECAUSE Ukraine was hopelessly corrupt, and divided, that it was ripe for the picking by corrupt politicians like Biden, and neocon devils.
Color Revolution is so easy in countries that are corrupt, divided, and have no sense of their own national character.
oops, don’t go down this ugly raod
“Trump will try to return to the Nixon doctrine of balancing relations between China and Russia, and keeping the two of them separated and at arms-length..”
You cannot do that while weaponizing the dollar, weaponizing SWIFT, and loading up the sanctions. Trump was not a fan of the Russia sanctions, but the Republican-Lockheed Congress enshrined them in law.
It’ll be interesting to see how Trump approaches it. But the neocon dominated Congress has made it nearly impossible to split China and Russia... or do much against BRICS.
What if mexico or canada decided to try and join an alliance with Russia and China. We’d probably feel the same way as putin does about Ukraine. I’m pretty sure we should stay away from that region and make friends not enemies.
The elites were planning the Ukraine war for at least a decade. The anti-Russian propaganda was massive in 2008 when I was there. Again in 2013
More likely the narco cartels in Mexico would join with China/Russia/Norks in some mutual aid and protection agreement. If the official (pretend) government of Mexico did so overtly, they would buy themselves a US invasion and replacement by a military government by us instead (Monroe doctrine).
A lasting peace requires either total victory or an agreement where both sides can show benefit. Agreeing there be a neutral buffer between NATO and Russia (including Scandinavia) seems like a doable path to stop the meat-grinder. Specific details of such an agreement not withstanding.
It seems to me one of the first steps in a negotiation is a validation of various points to those on either side of a negotiation. Looks to me that is what Trump did here. The equivalent of saying to a participant in the negotiation: “Look. I understand how you feel.”
But not reading the rest of the thread. I know how these things go around here.
Good for Trump. This makes sense.
Yup, even longer than that....
