Meta is scrapping its fact-checking program with trusted partners and replacing it with a community-driven system similar to X’s Community Notes, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Tuesday.
The change will affect Facebook and Instagram, two of the largest social media platforms in the world, each boasting billions of users, as well as Threads.
"We're gonna get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our policies and restoring free expression on our platforms," Zuckerberg said in a video. "More specifically, here's what we're going to do. First, we're going to get rid of fact checkers and replace them with community notes similar to X, starting in the U.S."
Zuckerberg pointed to the election as a major influence on the company's decision, and criticized "governments and legacy media" for allegedly pushing "to censor more and more."
"The recent elections also feel like a cultural tipping point towards, once again, prioritizing speech," he said.

Fine and dandy, but we will always remember how quickly you knuckled under to a feral government and its demands for censorship.

I have a friend who spends a lot of time on facebook.
The level and irrationality of the censorship is enormous.
Meta got caught colluding with .gov to censor free speech. This change in policy does not change what they did especially with “zuckerbucks” in 2020. We know they know we know.

Censorship results in an echo chamber. Everyone eventually gets banned because one person ends up with the authority to ban everyone else for not falling in line.
I STILL won’t open a Facebook account. Screw them. I know my friends and family are all on Facebook, but I won’t fall for it.

It would be an interesting public outing to know the names of the “fact checkers.” I would hazard that several have mental issues along with visions of self-grandeur. Who are these Nazi sympathizers?
