Biden champions the action as win for climate change, while Trump's team says it could keep energy costs high
President Biden announced an 11th-hour executive action on Monday that bans new drilling and further oil and natural gas development on more than 625 million acres of U.S. coastal and offshore waters.
Biden, whose term expires in two weeks, said he is using authority to protect offshore areas along the East and West coasts, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and portions of Alaska's Northern Bering Sea from future oil and natural gas leasing. He invoked the 1953 Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, meaning President-elect Trump could be limited in his ability to revoke the action. Congress might need to intervene to grant Trump authority to place federal waters back into development.
"My decision reflects what coastal communities, businesses, and beachgoers have known for a long time: that drilling off these coasts could cause irreversible damage to places we hold dear and is unnecessary to meet our nation’s energy needs," Biden said in a statement. "It is not worth the risks. As the climate crisis continues to threaten communities across the country and we are transitioning to a clean energy economy, now is the time to protect these coasts for our children and grandchildren."
The move garnered quick condemnation from Trump's incoming White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt.

The only crisis of true significance is the rapidly rising national debt, coupled to state, county, municipal and school system debt, plus the inclusion of consumer debt and corporate debt, much of this becoming unmanageable.
As to the "climate crisis," there is none. There is the use of rhetoric to pry public funds out to profit the "green" oligarchs. who go bankrupt after a time, and hand yet additional debt to the public.

Of course the incoming Chief Law Enforcement Officer for the US will make darned sure those EOs are enforced regardless of their detriment to the nation’s welfare and security.
President Trump should issue one EO on day one; The cancellation of all executive orders prior to his Presidency. One and done.
This time it’s not an executive order. The law was specifically written 70+ years ago that Congress gave the sitting POTUS the power to set aside continental shelf aareas it’s an enumerated USC code law. There is no clause in the law as written to allow a incoming POTUS to undo via executive order or action once the area has been designated for preservation.
The USSC will uphold the law as written it’s specific in its purpose ,scope and authority.
The incoming congress will have to vote for and pass a bill amending the USC code with the specific power for an sitting POTUS to remove area designated for preservation. Then Trump has to sign it into law. That’s the only way this gets reversed. I am surprised Zero didn’t use the same law as he left office.
