Rep. Pramila Jayapal celebrates massive minimum-wage hike in Seattle and gets nailed with seething backlash

Businesses are already shutting down over the new law. Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington state celebrated the passage of a massive minimum-wage hike in the city of Seattle, but many on social media responded with ridicule and mockery.

The far-left government in Seattle jacked up the minimum wage on all businesses beginning the first of January. Some businesses are already shutting down after calculating that the law would force them into insolvency.

'Leftists are blocking opportunity. Again. It's what you authoritarian thugs do best.'

"Yesterday, Seattle’s minimum wage officially rose to $20.76 per hour — one of the highest minimum wages in the country!" she wrote. "I’m so proud to represent a city that puts workers first, and I’ll keep fighting to ensure we finally pass a minimum wage increase nationwide."

...

Congrats, Pramila. You’ve just guaranteed that small businesses in Seattle will be forced to close, jobs will be lost, and prices will skyrocket. Raising wages without understanding the economy isn’t helping workers, it’s hurting them

...

Perfect way to put small businesses out of business and raise unemployment and raise prices of everything. You idiot libs think your stupid policies happen in a vacuum. It's a snowball effect of destruction

...

Corina Luckenbach, a self-identified queer business owner, told KCPQ-TV that she had to close down Bebop Waffle Shop over the increase in minimum wage, which she supported in theory.

"This is financially just not going to make sense

...

California passed a similar minimum-wage law meant to increase wages for fast-food workers, but some businesses have responded by firing employees and others have shut down completely.

Nice going Jayapal. The ridiculous minimum wage hike is
causing self-identified queer business owners to go out
of business.

How could you even think of celebrating?

In my smallish town Walmart starts workers ar $21.00/hr and Target has a starting wage of $22.00/hr.

It’s easy to find a job for $18.00+ here...

It’s the free market that these ‘Progressives’ just cannot comprehend nor understand...

I worked in So. Seattle over 20 years.
I’m a graduate of a Seattle university.
Some of the stupidest people in the USA live in Seattle.
I lived in North Bend, 32 miles east of Seattle.
Taxes too high? just drive across the lake and do Bellevue or Issaqua.
Drive south to the Fife/Tacoma area.
Don’t buy anything in Seattle.

Poor lady. She doesn’t understand that communism isn’t supposed to make sense. It’s all about power and control.

And why are Democrat women so fugly.

If I had seen Jayapal as a teenager, I might have gone into the priesthood.

And I'm not even Catholic.

Unless you worked at Panera. Then the owner's friendship with the governor will keep your wages low. (I just looked it up and Panera said they would pay the higher minimum wage. I guess public shaming of them and their dirty deal worked.)

Minimum wage hikes are great….as long as you don’t have to pay them.

“The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others ; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power....

Power is not a means, it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.”

Paypal is just buying votes. She expects minimum wage beneficiaries to be grateful at the polls. Despicable.

Just like when they raised taxes on soft drinks to combat obesity. People just drove out of the city and bought them.

“Corina Luckenbach, a self-identified queer business owner, told KCPQ-TV that she had to close down Bebop Waffle Shop”

And the best part of this idiot’s post is she says she STRONGLY supports the minimum wage hike.

I remember back in the 70s a city somewhere hiked the sales tax quite a bit. Then there was filming done showing the mayor or council person driving a city vehicle with his family and
they did their shopping in a nearby city where taxes were less.
