Elon Musk on California Law Banning Voter ID: ‘To Make Voting Fraud Unprovable’

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk slammed a new California law Friday that aims to prohibit local authorities from requiring photo identification (ID) when voting, saying that it had been passed “to make voting fraud unprovable.”

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed the law in September.

The law was partly a reaction to an attempt by the City of Huntingon Beach, one of the last conservative bastions in California, to require voter ID in the 2024 election. Voters in the city passed Measure 1, requiring voter ID, in March 2024, but it does not take effect until 2026. The law, SB 1174, includes a finding that voting is “a matter of statewide concern rather than a municipal affair,” and therefore outside Huntington Beach’s jurisdiction as a charter city.

Though the text of the law does not provide for a specific effective date, in essence its effective date was January 1, 2025, leading to criticism online from conservatives — and Musk:

Why does voter fraud have to be provable? According to the Democrats, there is no voter fraud, anywhere.

This is why we need the electoral college, so that states can’t steal the election with fraud.

Once the rats get control they do all they can to weld the door shut. The phrase “you have to shoot your way out” comes to mind.

Who are these Democrats? I thought they were at least fellow Americans but they are not even that. Trump better make voter ID in federal elections mandatory or this stuff will spread.

California is pretty much beyond redemption or rescue. Only by a complete removal of the democratic party, and the forceful deportation of every illegal immigrant will it have a fighting chance.

Tell Thune and Johnson. They won't get any such legislation passed.

Does this mean we can all be Californian voters for a day? Fly in vote and get the hell out? I see a whole new industry setting up voting junkets with tours of polls.

Of course not. But that’s the real solution.

Real ID was hard enough to get passed and everyone even close to compliance.

Have had my byline for a few years now. The Democrats oppose anything that makes cheating harder and support anything that makes cheating easier.
