Donald Trump Wishes Mike Johnson ‘Good Luck’ on Speaker Vote

President-elect Donald Trump reissued support for House Speaker Mike Johnson’s attempt on Friday to remain Speaker of the House.

Trump appears steadfast that Johnson is the person to lead House Republicans in at least the first two years of his second administration.

Not all House Republicans are impressed with Johnson, who tried in December to pass a huge spending bill filled with pork. A much smaller bill became law with Democrat support after Trump pressured Johnson to reduce its size.

Previously, Johnson most notably rushed through a reauthorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) with few revisions or measures to protect American citizens from a weaponized Deep State. The Obama-Biden administration issued FISA warrants to spy on Trump’s 2016 campaign. Johnson explained that his apparent flip-flop on the controversial surveillance law was based on a classified briefing with intel officials.

Yeah and remember the clown Massie voted 15 times for McCarthy.

His posturing is infantile egotism not principled opposition.

We are in this place because the rats stole 10-15 House races in November. No one who matters has said a word about it. So we are stuck with a weak go along to get along GOPe hack lack Johnson. We can also thank the 20 traitors who voted against Jordon. They think we forgot about that one.

The problem isn’t Johnson but our lack of votes for anyone better. Suppose Johnson fails, we end-up with nobody or someone to his left, and this leads to MAGA failure. Maybe more regulation or taxes. Will Massie compensate the victims of his grandstanding?

No, Massie likes compensating Congress with Ukraine and Briben’s debt ceiling funding votes.

I think the republicans will all vote Johnson. There’s no reason to get rid of him in the middle of the electoral process. Also that one former Dem Utah rep might end up voting Jefferys

What I find troubling is Johnson’s 2024 failure to get regular budget bills out in time.

The House Republicans probably need to vote him in again, but Johnson needs to do better too.

A few Republicans in each chamber could get regular budget bills in the hoppers in plenty of time.

Johnson isn’t the only problem.

The House should seek to go to four-year terms two years offset from those of the President. Members spend too much time campaigning and fundraising and not enough doing their jobs.

This would require a constitutional amendment.

Perhaps the pardon & commutation power of a President should end a week prior to Election Day of the last year of his term.

Senator and president should be one-term offices. Future senators can learn the ropes in the House for as many terms as necessary or deemed to be justified by voters.

WIKI

Daniel Reed Crenshaw (born March 14, 1984) is an American politician and former United States Navy SEAL officer serving as the U.S. representative for Texas’s 2nd congressional district since 2019. He is a member of the Republican Party.

In 2022, Crenshaw voiced support for a $40 billion aid package to Ukraine. Fox News political commentator Tucker Carlson criticized him for this, calling Crenshaw “Eyepatch McCain”—a remark that itself drew much criticism.

Crenshaw is publicly critical of the Freedom Caucus, whom he regards as divisive “performance artists” for constantly attacking moderate Republicans.

In 2022, on his podcast Hold These Truths, Crenshaw criticized Republicans who contested the results of the 2020 presidential election, saying of their efforts, “It was always a lie. The whole thing was always a lie. And it was a lie meant to rile people up”.

“the worst thing modern Christianity stands for is anti-homosexual marriage, which is a far cry from sex slaves, sharia law and beheadings.”
