OP Rep. Roy on Speaker Johnson: ‘I Don’t Believe He Has the Votes’
Breitbart ^ | 12/31/2024 | Pam Key

Posted on 12/31/2024 1:35:38 PM PST by ChicagoConservative27

Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) said Tuesday on Fox Business Network’s “Varney & Co.” that Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) did not have the votes to keep the position.

Roy said, “I remain undecided, as do a number of my colleagues because we saw so many of the failures last year that we are concerned about that might limit or inhibit our ability to advance the president’s agenda.”

He continued, “We violated the 72-hour rule twice, which means we didn’t have time to read a bill. We had to have Elon and Vivek and the president and JD come in to kill a 1,500-page monstrosity, cut it down to 100 pages. It still spent $110 billion unpaid for.”

Swamp shrimp needs to go.

Byron Donalds, a non-congress person or ANYONE is better than someone who betrays - over and over.

Those who say he’ll be under Trump’s thumb, well so will *anyone* replacing him.. even moreso.

Unless they’ve got someone lined up who can get the votes, I don’t see the point in standing for principle. Sometimes standing for principle can ultimately do more harm than good.

This is not a good time to play chicken with our paper thin majority.

Some GOP members are desperate for attention, one suspects.

Listen to DJT on this one, for pity sakes!

Johnson could have Chip Roy's vote tomorrow if Johnson would commit to not extending the debt ceiling with these dumbazz continuing resolutions, commit to single purpose bills rather than these 1500+ page liberal handout monstrosities, and commit to giving the representatives 72 hours to read the d*mn bills before being expected to vote on them. Is that really asking too much? Oh hell no. Instead of b*tching at Chip Roy, Trump needs to tap Johnson on the shoulder and tell him cut a deal with Roy and get it done.

Who does have the votes? Hakeem? Why can’t they decide these votes ahead of time. Do they never meet outside?

I agree with those simple changes, but apparently we peons don’t understand how 35-D chess works or something, therefore the system must continue to be complex and divisive.

This is not a good time to play chicken with our paper thin majority.

We constantly hear this: "We can't afford to oppose RINOs, we can't afford to vote against this or that bloated spending package, its not the time for division among the GOP, we need every vote to get this judge into their seat, etc..."

Its never a good time for small government and conservative principles!

That's the long and short of it. The powers that be think we are as dumb as democrats and just can't understand the complexities they tell us exist that cannot be seen by any rational mind.

Any time any body says "it's complicated" ... what they really mean is that they want you to rubber stamp them doing what is "easy" instead of what is "right". I can't stand spineless wimps like that. Especially the ones in authority.

Johnson should have lost his gavel in addition to his dignity the same day he put forth the 1500+ page democrat payday with 24 hours to sign it.

Not as long as we keep letting people like most of congress and attention whores like Chip Roy get elected. W

Where are the candidates like Scott Presler or Charlie Kirk?

How many winning sports teams don’t have a farm team system or recruitment and just hope the best players manage to come play for them?

Put Mike Johnson aside for a moment. There is a change in the Force in DC. There will be a Republican Senate when Congress reconvenes and a Republican president on January 20.

Mike Johnson has been trying to manage a wafer thin majority againt a democrat monolith in charge of everything else, with grandstanding microfactions doing their ritual purity kabuki dances for the tv cameras.

Now the Republicans control everything and the obstacle will be democrat filibusters ... and grandstanding mictofactions doing their ritual purity kabuki dances for the tv cameras.

Some people need to shut up and support the team. Ritual purity? Trump is to the left of the Republican caucuses in both the House and Senate on most issues. Deal with that.

Republicans have a very short window of opportunity to get something done if they stand together. They have zero chance to accomplish anything if they bicker amongst themselves.

The ritual purity microfactions don’t care. They are more interested in the tv cameras.

I share your frustration 100%. And if we dont have a Speaker, we cant certify the election at the joint session on Monday. What do we do about that?
