The carpenter pleaded guilty to khalwat with a 52-year-old woman. It was his third time being caught for the offence. The rare punishment has stoked vigorous debate in Malaysia.
A 42-year-old Malaysian man was publicly caned in Terengganu on Friday (Dec 27) for the Islamic crime of khalwat, or close proximity between a man and a woman not related by family ties.
The rare punishment, which has stoked vigorous debate, took place at the Al-Muktafi Billah Shah Mosque in Kuala Terengganu after Friday prayers.
Carpenter Mohd Affendi Awang, a father of five, is the first person to be caned for repeated khalwat offences under Terengganu’s amended Syariah Criminal Offences (Takzir) Enactment 2022, which came into effect on Jan 1, local media reported. He was sentenced to six lashes on Nov 20 by Terengganu Syariah High Court Judge Kamalruazmi Ismail.

I would be beaten to a pulp. All of my friends, save one, are men.
None of our business. We have enough problems.
Six feet COVID separation, right?
No Terengganu Tango permitted.....

Khalwat is a Sharia law offense that refers to being in close proximity with an unmarried person of the opposite sex who is not an immediate family member. This can include sharing a hotel room, living together, or even working in close proximity. Sharia law would cripple an industrial nation.
Maybe they’re cousins 😏
D’oh!!
How pathetic that the Malay people allowed themselves to be considered by the barbaric Islamic creed. They should embrace Christianity and liberate themselves.
Oh please, he was having sex with a woman not his wife.
Third time is a charm....
- Sharia law would cripple an industrial nation -
I believe it has crippled a few places with no chance of ever getting out of the barbaric medieval ages.
We don’t call muzzie dumps “Sh!tholistan” for nothing.
Cheers :)
What does this mean in unveiled language?
Peninsular Malaysia at least is a very industrial nation - and the secular Malays and large ethnic Chinese minority are certainly concerned. Some Malay politicians keep pushing Islamic fundamentalism for political advantage, seeking support from poor Malays as the ayatollahs in Iran do today. If Malaysia ever falls to a fundamentalist government it could be an economic disaster for the region.
You have it perfect. Islamic fundamentalism is a threat like a parasite sends its host to its end.
