‘We need new leadership’: Atlantic Liberal caucus calls for Trudeau’s resignation

OTTAWA - The Atlantic Liberal caucus is calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to resign as party leader in a letter expressing “deep concern” about the future of government.

The letter dated Dec. 23 was shared publicly Sunday by New Brunswick MP Wayne Long, who has been saying since the fall that Trudeau should step down.

Long wrote in a Facebook post that he shared the letter for “openness and transparency.”

“If we are to have any chance in the next election, and prevent a Pierre Poilievre government, we need new leadership with a new vision for our party and the country,” Long wrote.

Atlantic caucus chair and Nova Scotia MP Kody Blois penned the letter, saying it is no longer “tenable” for Trudeau to continue to lead the party.

The letter notes that the country faces “instability” amid U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s tariff threats and signals from opposition parties that they will declare non-confidence in Trudeau’s government at the first opportunity.

The letter thanks Trudeau for his nine years of service as prime minister, saying he leaves a “positive and consequential legacy.” It cautions Trudeau that could be undone if he stays on as leader.

The letter comes less than two weeks after Chrystia Freeland’s resignation from Trudeau’s cabinet as finance minister and deputy prime minister.

Knives are coming out now. It's been noted that a majority of the Liberal MPs now favour Justine stepping down. He can still hang on of course but it will be a bumpy ride. Polls are now showing a 25 point gap in the lead the conservatives have on the liberals. That is annihilation level for the Libs. That'll get any current lib MPs attention.

Well he ain’t gonna join the Liberal party. Wayne once supported PM Stephen Harper who was the PM before Justine. If anything he’d be on the Pierre train.

Looks like Pretty Boy Trudeau is going to lose his leadership position soon. But it can’t be fast enough for the Canadian people.

Trudeau for his nine years of service as prime minister, saying he leaves a “positive and consequential legacy.” It cautions Trudeau that could be undone if he stays on as leader.

So, the Atlantic Liberal Caucus thinks that Trudeau did wonders for Canada (and the party), but want somebody new so that the good things that Trudeau did won't be undone? A 'new leader' to do the same as the 'old leader'? That's hypocrisy.

If a new leader is needed to do the same as Trudeau, then, what's 'new' in that? A face? A new name? But, keep doing what Trudeau did?

Canadians are faced with the same conundrum as the American left. They recognize that they need a new leader, but the policies must remain the same. Democrats want to get new leadership because the old leadership didn't get the democrats' policies explained to the voters correctly. Idiocy and insanity are equally defined with the democrats' explanations for why they lost. The Atlantic Liberal is doing exactly the same as the democrats in the U.S. Democrats lost because of the wrong candidates, and it had nothing to do with policy? Again, what's the definition of insanity?

Well, if the liberals don't like him, he must be good.

The WEF/NWO pukes own Trudeau and he does exactly what they demand. He’s not going to resign, they won’t allow it.

The Grits MPs want to save their seats, but it may be too late for most of them.

Even with a new leader and NDP support for said new leader, October is coming and the Liberals are still going to lose badly.

Liberal MPs on the verge of losing their seats aren’t going to give a rat’s behind as to what the “WEF/NWO” cares about. The Liberals are going to get slaughtered in the next election, the only question is how badly.

The Liberals best hope is to simply win enough seats to beat the Bloc Quebecois and form the Official Opposition. As things stand hey are probably not going to even be able to do that. They might even come fourth in seat count...

If dumping Trudeau will save enough seats to come in only second and still get the perks of being the opposition, they’ll do it.
