Two weeks before the Supreme Court is set to hear oral arguments over TikTok's future, President-elect Donald Trump has asked the justices to delay a Jan. 19 deadline for the app to be sold to a new owner or face a ban in the U.S.
An amicus brief filed by Trump's nominee to be solicitor general, John Sauer, is asking the court to grant a stay delaying the deadline so that the incoming president can work out a "negotiated resolution" that would save the app.
The filing casts Trump as someone who "alone possesses the consummate dealmaking expertise, the electoral mandate, and the political will to negotiate a resolution to save the platform while addressing the national security concerns expressed by the Government."

The western version of TikTok is a weapon invented by Communist China’s deep-state. This weapon is meant to destroy and corrupt Americas’ youth. It’s meant to plunge our your into absolute apathy. It’s a horrible invention. It’s a dreadful weapon.
Civilized nations must ban TikTok urgently.

Yes, I agree with this wholeheartedly. But this is also a situation where the cure could be worse than the disease.
If tiktok were sold off or shut down in the manner currently planned, and the main beneficiaries of that were pro-censorship US tech giants, you create an even bigger problem as the enabling legislation could then be used to shut down other companies like Twitter, OANN, or even Fox under the same premise of stopping foreign influence.

Also, I'll like to add that the Government can remove any site that is of "national security" concern. So that'll include X and FR.
All they have to do is to point out that we're posting some stuff about Russia so they'll shut us down.

If "corrupting" was the real issue, you should start with OnlyFans. (Not that I support censoring any of them.)
It’s an absolute hotbed of MAGA content, Christian content, content extolling the virtues of marriage and faithfulness, etc.
It was banned for not helping our government censor us. But it’s worst crime of all... it was/is destroying Instagram and Facebook. And it’s even far more free than Twitter/X.
So Zuckerberg called up his bought and paid for congressmen and demanded they stop his competition.
It has nothing to do with spying, national security, or protecting children and America. If it did, they would ne seeking to ban Canadian porn giant “Pornhub”. It’s widely reputed to have underage content, rapes, violence etc.
But no problems out there for THAT foreign owned threat is quite safe from DC.
TikTok already has that option. So Trump would be offering nothing new.
And American firms like Meta (Facebook, Instagram) and Alphabet (Google, YouTube) are more censorious than TikTok.
I hope China keeps it. The good (a freer speech platform) outweighs the bad (content that's no more trashy than the others).

They should ban all apps/social media sites from spying on its users or allowing any government influence not just Tik Tok because the Red Chinese are doing it.

What bothers me with TikTok is that it’s in total control by China’s Communist Party.

Facebook and Instagram are both banned in China. These platforms have been inaccessible in the country since 2009 and 2014, respectively.
So why on EARTH are we accepting China’s propaganda weapons here in America? We are kneeling before China, once again.
