Moscow has warned Donald Trump against resuming the testing of nuclear weapons when he takes office, saying it would “not rule anything out” in response to US aggression.
Sergei Ryabkov, Russia’s deputy foreign minister who oversees arms control, noted that Mr Trump refused to ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty during his first term.
Referencing this refusal, Mr Ryabkov said: “American policy in its various aspects is extremely hostile to us today.”
“So the options for us to act in the interests of ensuring security and the potential measures and actions we have to do this - and to send politically appropriate signals... we do not rule anything out,” he added.
The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty banning nuclear test explosions was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1996, but has not come into force as some signatory nations have not ratified it.
The United States signed the treaty in 1996 but has not ratified it. Russia signed the treaty in 1996 and ratified it in 2000, before Vladimir Putin revoked the move in 2023.

You don’t tell the US, or Trump what to do, Ivan. So stuff your lectures
Nuclear testing is aggression?
How paranoid are these fascist regimes anyway?
Putin spent the last 4 years threatening nuclear war.
And now he doesn’t want us to test?
Indeed. They do things like lock up political opponents in solitary confinement without trial or bail for years on end.
F Russia. They do nothing but constantly threaten nuclear attacks. Do whatever is best for our safety.
FU Putin, Trump is about to own your ass
I’m kind of interested in what testing we could do versus what testing Russia can do. For example, we did our open-air testing on Pacific islands, which I doubt would quite as accommodating as they were back then (when we relocated them). For Russia, they have Siberia, and while I don’t know what it would take to create a clear-zone, I suspect it would be much easier.
So we could end up stuck with underground testing, while Russia does above ground testing, which provides FAR MORE data, at least according to documents released by DOE in the 1990s.
For the US and Soviets, testing went underground in 1963, until cessation in 1996. I worked the last effects test in Nevada in 1992. A lot of the personnel were close to retiring at that time. Everyone I worked with on that test, have now retired themselves.
The collective knowledge of performing a successful test and getting any kind of data other than “It went bang.” is completely lost, the hardware infrastructure is gone as well.
It’s a simple fact that if America resumes nuclear weapons tests so will Russia and others. That’s really all this boils down to.
All of you crotch-grabbing, virtue-signaling, lunatic neocons look more ridiculous every day:
FUVP
Usually Russia threatens nukes on Wednesday. They must have taken the day off to shoot down a civilian plane or missile a hospital.

Good as I’m not sure that escalation in this area is very smart for us, given what a mess our military has become.
If we were to teat then Ivan would feel forced to test. And Ivan doesn’t want that because then the world would know that his nukes don’t work!

No need to get emotional about it. If we do testing, we will have the BEST AND BRIGHTEST people in world conducting the tests, straight from the Work/DEI leadership of our military! What’s the concern, given that?
Hmmm...never mind. One second thought, yeah, getting emotional about it probably does make sense in this case.
Yikes!
teat = test
Could probably get the Icecap site ready to go in a couple of years.

Threatening Trump is a poor idea.
Communist regime. Russia is still ruled by “former” Communists who never repented.
STFU with the whataboutism. The USA has its flaws, but Russia has been killing political opponents for years. Putin even had a journalist, who was looking into the Moscow apartment building bombings, shot in the head on his birthday.
