Is Vivek Ramaswamy's Unpleasant Advice What We Need to Hear?
PJ Media ^ | 12/27/2024 | Richard Fernandez

Posted on 12/27/2024 8:03:38 AM PST by SeekAndFind

Vivek Ramaswamy broke the first rule of public relations. He said something that will probably alienate the public in what we can call his blood, sweat, and tears tweet. The billionaire entrepreneur had one simple message on X: We can't get ahead by taking it easy, no matter what Hollywood says.

The reason top tech companies often hire foreign-born & first-generation engineers over “native” Americans isn’t because of an innate American IQ deficit (a lazy & wrong explanation). A key part of it comes down to the c-word: culture. Tough questions demand tough answers & if we’re really serious about fixing the problem, we have to confront the TRUTH:

Our American culture has venerated mediocrity over excellence for way too long (at least since the 90s and likely longer). That doesn’t start in college, it starts YOUNG.

A culture that celebrates the prom queen over the math olympiad champ, or the jock over the valedictorian, will not produce the best engineers.

A culture that venerates Cory from “Boy Meets World,” or Zach & Slater over Screech in “Saved by the Bell,” or ‘Stefan’ over Steve Urkel in “Family Matters,” will not produce the best engineers.

(Fact: I know *multiple* sets of immigrant parents in the 90s who actively limited how much their kids could watch those TV shows precisely because they promoted mediocrity…and their kids went on to become wildly successful STEM graduates).

More movies like Whiplash, fewer reruns of “Friends.” More math tutoring, fewer sleepovers. More weekend science competitions, fewer Saturday morning cartoons. More books, less TV. More creating, less “chillin.” More extracurriculars, less “hanging out at the mall.”

Most normal American parents look skeptically at “those kinds of parents.” More normal American kids view such “those kinds of kids” with scorn.

The problem, as Vivek points out, is that China won't get with the decolonizing program, or rather, they have exempted themselves from it. "Be brutally honest," he writes. “'Normalcy' doesn’t cut it in a hyper-competitive global market for technical talent. And if we pretend like it does, we’ll have our asses handed to us by China." Europe has already had its ass handed to it by China.

Share of Global GDP in 2007: 1) EU: 25.2% 2) USA: 24.7% 3) China 6.1%

Share of Global GDP in 2024: 1) USA: 26.3% 2) EU: 17.3% 3) China: 16.9%

Only two months ago, Emmanuel Macron warned that the EU was only 2 to 3 years from irrelevance. “The EU could die, we are on a verge of a very important moment ... Our former model is over. We are overregulating and underinvesting. In the two to three years to come, if we follow our classical agenda, we will be out of the market.”

You American sellouts are very busy posting today. Either the Trump Administration honors it’s promises to American workers or it suffers the fate of the Tories in the U.K.

Vivek, just get rid of the unconstitutional portion of the bloated and dangerous federal gov’t.

The market economy, free from gov’t interference, will take care of itself just fine, thank you, as the free market economy did in the 1800’s making America the wealthiest and strongest nation is the world.

Freedom will do that.

If Indian and Chinese engineers are so awesome, why do they have to steal or copy American technological secrets ???

It’s a harder problem to solve, but the right problem to solve is to find a way to produce enough good quality engineers from within the current US population. Importing foreigners just means we never solve the real problem.

Some of it is culture, because Indians want to be with Indians. Indians also work cheap, because their life depends on the company renewing their visa. They will put up with more.

Vivek already gave an answer to that question. In the article:

NO ONE can argue with this 😏

It comes down to cheap salaries and more favorable tax treatment.

Yep the free market economy of the 1800’s. Low wages, 6 day work weeks, child labor, no workplace safety, company stores, 16 depressions/recessions from 1836-1900. The good ole days were not always so good.

Not really.

American tech companies like to hire foreign workers:

Cheaper.

Less likely to unionize.

Information technology really is not that complicated. It is just another way to sell advertising. They hire Indians so a handful of lucky tech people can have a 200 foot yacht rather than a 100 foot one.

They wont tell you, I just did.

MAGA doesn’t mean sh** if it doesn’t benefit average Americans and average American workers

Ramaswamy is stabbing MAGA in the heart with such comments. Its the surest way to lose support for Trump.

H-1B visas are no different from off-shoring jobs. They just bring the off-shore here.

If we want to compete we have to hire the best the world has to offer. That WAS Americans before white liberal ‘elites’ took over the education industry in the United States and turned our schools into propaganda/pervert spreaders.

So, it ALL has to be fixed. Putting DET idiots in high tech jobs is NOT the answer Biden’s ‘energy dude’ the guy who wore women’t dresses that the stole from airport luggage went to one of ‘our best’ schools. During the time they were adding DEI ‘students’.

Yeah, I read your anrticle and essentially the same article giving the same arguments hundreds of times over the past 25 years. If the Trump Administration breaks its promises to American workers it will go the way of the Tories of the U.K.
