Health providers in Canada have expressed concern in the weeks leading up to Christmas and the New Year that the country’s overburdened healthcare system could see a dangerous surge in the number of patients in emergency rooms, encouraging prospective patients to exhaust other available options before going to hospitals.
The holidays approach following the publication of reports this month that wait times to see doctors in Canada, particularly specialists, are longer than even in the modern history of the country, and thousands of Canadians are dying on waitlists for life-saving medical interventions.

And I hear lefty state time and time again we need to copy Europe for free healthcare!
Government run, single-payer healthcare does not and will not EVER work well for the patient.
Nothing is free, except unsolicited advice from know-it-alls.
You should do your research. You sound like all the socialist lefties.
Sure, Europe has Healthcare free...but they pay DOUBLE what I pay in income tax.
My cousin lives and works in Germany..that’s how I know it’s not “ free “
Terrific response,
There's a catch. Health care is available but they have to allot it according to time.
In USA, they allot it according to money.
Cutting edge medical care is available in the U.S. as long as you can afford to pay for it.
You may have to wait a year for your surgery in Canada.
A lot of Canadiens and Europeans come to the U.S. for life saving health care. The ones that can afford it that is. Government has no business in healthcare. GTFO.
I’m confused why European and Canadian medical are so bad.
My wife is on medicare and we pay for medicare plus insurance
I pay monthly for Medicare but I’m in the VA system as well.
I only use the VA system.
In my state VA sends me to the same doctors as everyone else(no VA hospitals in Hawaii).
Great access to everything we need for medical services.
in 2024 my wife’s medical bills ran around $90,000
(4 days in the ICU) we paid about $1500.
My medical(one day ICU and one day private room)
$0; VA paid it all.
My point is My wife and I contributed to the system all our lives and we get the care we need and earned.
These other systems in Canada and Europe are trying to care for everybody to the exclusion of their own citizens that actually paid into it.
Solution- If it is not life threatening non-citizens or people that refuse to pay into the system go to the end
of the Queue. Take care of our own first.
If anyone thinks you’re going to get rich being an MD in America they’re barking up the wrong tree.
I see illegals every night in my hospitals ER and L&D(’’maternity ward’’) with no money, no insurance and they’re given immediate medical attention from a band aid to a by-pass and you and I are the ones paying for it.
“And while we’re at tell Elon we ought to turn the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms Bureau into a string of convenience stores.”
AGREED!
My Canadian daughter-in-laws father sure did. For a heart by-pass.
It would have taken two years for the procedure in Canada.
He got it done here in a week.
I was being sarcastic. Should have put (S)

14% to 45%
https://taxsummaries.pwc.com/germany/individual/taxes-on-personal-income
If you earn less than 11,784€ per year, you pay no income tax. If you earn the median income, your income tax is around 18% of your income. The maximum income tax is 45% of your income.
Nursing care insurance (Pflegeversicherung) pays for your healthcare when you are old. It costs 3.4% of your income. If you are over 22 years old, and you don’t have children, it costs 4% of your income. If you are an employee, your employer pays half of it.
All employees must pay into the public pension system. It costs 18.6% of your income. If you are an employee, your employer pays half of it, so you pay 9.3%.
If you are self-employed, public pension insurance is usually optional. If you don’t pay public pension insurance, you must make your own retirement plans.
Unemployment insurance (Arbeitslosenversicherung) pays a percentage of your salary if you lose your job. It costs 1.3% of your income.
Your health insurance costs a percentage of your income. Your employer pays half of it.

If you earn under 69,300€ per year, you can only choose public health insurance.
If you are an employee, you pay 9.0% to 10.2% of your income. Your employer takes that amount from your salary every month [and pays the other half]. If you make more than 62,100€ per year, you pay the maximum price: around 530€ per month.
If you are self-employed, you pay 18.0% to 20.5% of your income. It’s taken from your bank account every month. The cost is based on your estimated income. It’s adjusted every year. If you paid too much, you get money back later. If you did not pay enough, you need to pay more later.
Public health insurance covers necessary care, not luxuries. If you want special treatments, you must pay the extra cost yourself. For example, it only covers amalgam tooth fillings. If you want fancy composite fillings, you must pay for the difference. Tooth cleanings are not fully covered. Eyeglasses are rarely covered.

There’s also church tax if you are a member.
And value added tax.

Throw ‘free’ peanuts out to squirrels.
Euthanasia accounted for 4.7% of the deaths in Canada for 2023. Median age was 77. Quebec has 22% of the population in Canada. 37% of the euthanasia deaths for all of Canada were in Quebec for 2023.

I did not realize Quebec was that bad of a place to live...
NOTHING IS FREE!
It takes 6 months to get biopsy results in Canada. By then you are already Stage 4. And a wait in an emergency room is 18 hours.
41% of USA medical spending comes from Medicare and Medicaid.
Clients of those two federal programs give almost 90% Very Good or Satisfactory ratings.
State sponsored health plans are 10% of USA care, and the ratings are mixed - some quite high, others quite low.
In total, more than 70% of Americans rank their health care as Very Good or Satisfactory.
