I have some sympathy for Johnson here. He has a very thin majority. He has a lot of people sniping from the sidelines. Should he have done a better job? Probably. But we’ve seen what happens when Republicans take a hard line on the debt ceiling before. They get crucified and back down. A strategy to reduce spending is something that needs to be developed over the long term. Not just every year around this time. That is all of their fault.

What I want to see is the end of the decades of Continuing Resolution crap and going back to building budgets. If Johnson can achieve that, he’ll prove his worth.

But then who do we replace him with?

It wasn’t too long ago that many here on Free Republic, were very happy when Johnson replaced Kevin McCarthy.

What would change if he were replaced.

Just a thought

Good question.

I also question if we really want to have a another big speakership battle, with such a tiny margin of GOP control, at the start of the new Trump era.

Yep, yep, and yep, but this year is different. The election in November means that the people are sick and tired of the old way and want some sanity back in government.

The budget fiasco has been resolved until Mid-March.

Come January, Trump needs to use his considerable influence to craft/draft necessary budget & other legislation.

Tell Mike to get with the conservative/populist programs or face loss of speakership & a stiff primary challenge.
