Eric Adams's Former Chief Adviser Charged with Bribery, Money Laundering, and Conspiracy

New York City mayor Eric Adams’s former chief adviser, Ingrid Lewis-Martin, was indicted Thursday on charges of conspiracy, bribery, and money laundering.

Lewis-Martin is accused of giving special treatment to two real estate developers when their construction project faced government roadblocks. The developers rewarded Lewis-Martin for her assistance by gifting her and her son over $100,000 in checks and cash, which her son used to purchase a Porsche, according to the indictment filed by District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Lewis-Martin, who abruptly resigned on Sunday, is the latest New York official to face charges in the mayor’s administration, which has been engulfed in a series of corruption investigations. Adams himself was indicted in September on charges of bribery, fraud, and soliciting illegal foreign campaign donations, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Lewis-Martin’s son, Glenn Martin II, and the two developers were also charged. Lewis-Martin and her son surrendered to court Thursday morning.

"We will continue to root out corruption; New Yorkers deserve no less," Bragg said.

Adams will be indicted soon. After that, he will begin his transition to being a Republican.

over $100,000 in checks and cash, which her son used to purchase a Porsche,

How stupid do you have to be to take a bribe in checks? I suppose it makes some sense to pay by check, so you can document it as a business expense for tax purposes.

And how stupid do you have to be to use bribe money to buy a high end car and flash it around like you are n(ouveau) rich(e).

Decades ago I would have immediately believed the charges were true and thought “Good job prosecutors!”.

Now I’m cynical and assume these are “trumped up” charges as pay-back for Adams’ recent comments regarding Trump and his policies on immigration. The DOJ charges Adams’ former aide, gets him to make up accusations against Adams to save his own skin, and then they charge Adams with a crime.

Adams has to resign and they put someone more amenable in his place. Someone like Chelsea Clinton. The former aide goes free and their scheme is an success. (This entire story smells like the Clintons or Obamas have something to benefit by the outcome).

We will see how it plays out.

“...which her son used to purchase a Porsche...”

Nobody claims these grifters are geniuses.

Adams certainly doesn’t seem to be one.

It is alleged Manhattan businesses and properties, including the Glass Ceiling, a rooftop bar near Herald Square, and the Hotel on Rivington on the Lower East Side had construction permits pending with the Department of Buildings at various times during the investigation, and repeatedly contacted LEWIS-MARTIN and her son, MARTIN II to expedite their applications and assist with rejected applications, without regard to safety considerations or the Department of Buildings’ expertise.

On numerous occasions, after receiving a request from VAID or DWIVEDI for help with DOB applications, LEWIS-MARTIN relayed that request to the acting DOB Commissioner. The indictment and Statement of Facts enumerate those requests, the alleged favors performed for VAID and DWIVEDI, and extensive communications between the co-conspirators.

In August 2023, MARTIN II received two $50,000 checks from his co-conspirators: one cashier’s check from Dwivedi’s company, and one personal check from Vaid. MARTIN II deposited the $100,000 in checks to joint bank accounts held with LEWIS-MARTIN. He then transferred $50,000 to a company used for his DJ business, Suave Productions, and used that money to issue a $113,000 cashier’s check to purchase a Porsche for her son.

LEWIS-MARTIN made attempts to cover up the alleged conspiracy by asking the participants to join Signal, a third-party encrypted messaging app, noting “Please only use Signal for asks.” She also instructed them to use coded language in a text message to alert her that he had sent a message via Signal: “Next time just text me ‘trying to reach you[’] and I will Look for it.” She further insulated herself by using her son as an intermediary. They allegedly laundered the bribes by funneling the money through MARTIN II’s accounts.

Adams will be indicted soon. After that, he will begin his transition to being a Rino.

Fixed

If justice works he won’t be able to run for anything.

Under the current administration thousands of grifters in the Democrat controlled urban areas went wild.

This is just the tip of the iceberg—and yeah most of them were stupid and greedy.

Even a minimal investigation will catch dozens and dozens of them.

Nowhere is it written that criminals must be intelligent.

:-)
