What Senate Republicans are saying after Trump tanks government funding bill
ABC News ^ | Dec. 19, 2024 | ABC News

As President-elect Donald Trump's comments tanking House Speaker Mike Johnson's short-term government funding bill sent House Republicans into a tailspin Wednesday night, Senate Republicans were left to try to make sense of the remaining pieces.

Congress must act to fund the government by midnight on Friday or risk a shutdown. With the House back at the drawing board, the clock is ticking.

The nature of government funding bills means that the Senate is usually in a wait-and-see posture until the House acts. That's particularly true this time around, where Johnson has to wrangle his slim House majority into passing legislation that Trump will find palatable before the Senate decides whether they can accept it.

They’re probably muttering to each other over their navy bean soup about “coequal branch of government” and trading stock tips as usual.

In my opinion, there is not enough discussion about the fact that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have ceased to exist. The man in the White House right now is Donald J. Trump. His term started a little early. Because nature abhors a vacuum.

Every Republican will have to vote for a clean CR. Johnson doesn’t have his own party on board for a clean CR.

Probably right. They should be remembering all the interference in the executive branch the congress has been doing. And the USSC

“...Congress must act to fund the government by midnight on Friday or risk a shutdown...”?

Let me correct this.....

“...Congress must DO ITS JOB to fund the government by midnight on Friday or risk a shutdown...”

I never in my life had a job that I could dictate to the boss what part of my work I wanted to do and when I wanted to do it!!

The Senate is a Uniparty snake pit.

I would hope that Rand Paul will take the lead in the Senate in favor of a clean bill.

No money in the CR for the border wall tells you every thing you need to know. You can bet that Mullin is part of the 60 plus senators that wanted to gut social security in the name of fairness. Just like they did with the “fairness” for imported visa workers in December 2020.

More rope a dope from the rino traitors:

Gingrich, laughing, last night reminded that he shut the gooberment down several times when he was speaker. He also had the last balanced budgets in our history. Maybe the last real budgets in our history. It did not hurt us then and will not now. He also said you have to play hard ball. Time to hurl some fast and very hard pitches. Johnson is stuck. He let schumcky write this mess and then he allowed it onto the house floor. Nobody is really sure who wrote it but that had to be done or started weeks if not months ago. Some claim the writing is by staffers in schmuckie's office. Who knows really?

Back in the Gingrich days no vital services ended, no SS payments stopped, My Dad was a gooberment employee then, he didn't get paid for a cycle or two. People made it and all their back pay while they sat at home or worked skeleton crews at the dam was paid. I offered to loan him money but he said he didn't need it and so the whole event just faded into memory and he worked out at the farm for a few weeks and had a nice time of it. A WWII Navy fighter pilot, he never let much bother him. He was so funny that way. His confidence made us always feel safe. Thanks Dad.

Time to follow the law. We have not when it comes to spending in a very long time. Whatever it takes. Let the chips fall where they may. I only hope the Trump team has the steel to do some damage for making things right. If they do we have some rough days ahead but if they are they should be worth it.

Somehow he may think he is supporting border control by going along with the dims just like Lankford did. One wonders where the motivation for such comes from. As your reference mentions: "In Oklahoma, a bipartisan and multinational panel pushed a legal good/illegal bad migration plan in September. But GOP Gov. Kevin Stitt immediately downplayed the plan once it was trashed by Oklahoma voters." Multinational panel? I wonder who? In Oklahoma? Why?

Mullen is just another shame of Oklahoma. He is the typical paper tiger roid rage bully. I have seen him in town halls display his arrogance and self-perceived superiority in belittling old men by bragging he paid more in taxes in one year than they made so don't complain to him about taxes being too high. That is Chutzpah for you isn't it?

Mullen may be being led by the longer term other mental midget from Oklahoma, Lankford but trying to eclipse him.

Mullen is a glaring example of what money can do to your brain when the brain you have is very small. Mullen Plumbing, before he sold out, was successful but I hear it was built by others.
