A State Department agency – which has been chided by conservatives for its alleged blacklisting of Americans and news outlets – is set to be refunded in the continuing resolution (CR) bill currently being hammered out among lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
The Global Engagement Center has been included in page 139 of the CR. Although it doesn’t specify its budget allocation, a previous Inspector General report shows the agency’s FY 2020 budget totaled $74.26 million, of which $60 million was appropriated by Congress.
The provision in the CR can be found under "Foreign Affairs Section 301. Global Engagement Center Extension," and comes despite the State Department saying in response to a lawsuit that it intended to shut down the agency by next week.

Elon Musk previously described the GEC as being the "worst offender in US government censorship & media manipulation.
Please contact Speaker Johnson at 202-225-4000 and tell him NOT PASS THE CONTINUING RESOLUTION! The CR is a disaster for the country and the incoming Trump administration. Please put pressure on Johnson and every representative you can. The number for all members of the House is 202-225-3121.
Seeing on X that the bill will be pulled because Musk threatened to primary all who vote for it.
Little Johnson skeert.
Literally NO ONE in Fed.gov knows even a fraction of what goes into spending bills.
It’s all just hundreds-of-thousands of spending requests lumped together.
If it doesn’t match what Fed.gov collects in taxes (it never does), they just borrow/print the rest.
Getting your fingers into that pie is the absolute BEST position to be in.
Patriot Act
Free Speech / First Amendment Zone.
Here we have a “Global Engagement Center” whose purpose is to do the complete opposite and keep dissenting views out of the country.
Crap like that should be defunded and disband. It's an organization with the explicit purpose of censorship and propaganda (literally the meaning of this cliche: government perception operations in order to influence behaviors).
Here's a better name for this organization: Reichsministerium für Volksaufklärung und Propaganda
The Democrats always seem to get 100% of what they want from these Continuing Resolutions (CRs). Meanwhile, fiscal conservatives are told to shut up and take it.
We’re $36 trillion dollars in debt.
This is getting old.
Indeed.
This amount is meaningless, next to the cost of a 40% pay raise, or the treachery of blocking data requests to protect the January 6th Committee criminals. The CR MUST be stopped. We can do without the government for 33 days.
This is obviously a bill written by Democrats. Progressive Democrats even. I wonder if Speaker Johnson has even read the thing or even knows what is in it, other than his pay raise.
Don’t pass the CR. Delete the unwanted stuff now and have it ready for a vote just before Inauguration Day for Trump to sign once’s he’s inaugurated. Doing that closes that stupid State office now, among many others.
Orwell noticed that in the 1940s, but voters forget I guess.
Not necessarily. Just because they promised to close it doesn't guarantee they will. And they could also close and open it again with a new name, or completely hidden. It's like the US border, so big it's impossible to observe 100%.
I’ll find it and report it to D.O.G.E. I have a badge.
Musk has denounced the GEC, but I’m not sure when. Couldn’t hurt to remind DOGE.
The whole state department budget should be gone over with a fine tooth comb to weed out the waste. A lot of problems come out of this agency. They are a den of snakes since the biggest snake was in charge of that agency. Hilary poisoned the department when she was in charge. That place needs a good cleaning.

True, Hillary made it worse, but State was already in bad shape before Hillary. Dick Cheney? Liz Cheney? The deep state has screwed up one thing after another.
Either we include a huge amount of rotten pork or govt. shuts down. Legislature or protection racket?
