Mike Johnson’s Latest Spending Scheme Proves He’s Democrats’ Useful Idiot
The Federalist ^ | December 18, 2024 | Shawn Fleetwood

Posted on 12/18/2024 9:08:47 AM PST by Kazan

Mike Johnson is a pathetic excuse for a Republican who has no business being speaker, let alone a congressman.

It’s another day that ends in “-y,” which means House Speaker Mike Johnson is busy stabbing conservative voters in the back.

Following days of backdoor scheming, congressional leaders released the text of their 1,547-page spending measure to fund the federal government through March 2025. Deceptively marketed as a “continuing resolution” or CR, the bill bears all the hallmarks of the bloated omnibus packages Johnson recently promised voters wouldn’t happen under his watch.

“We have broken the Christmas omni and I have no intention of going back to that terrible tradition,” Johnson told reporters in September. “So, there won’t be a Christmas omnibus.”

Now here we are in December, and what do have but a massive omnibus filled with all the pork items on the D.C. establishment’s wish list.

A skim through the gargantuan bill reveals numerous unnecessary provisions, including those related to “American music tourism,” informing consumers about cameras on smart phones, and consumer safety standards for certain types of batteries.

Among the most alarming, however, is a one-year extension of the State Department’s Global Engagement Center (GEC).

As The Federalist’s Margot Cleveland previously reported, GEC “funded the development of censorship tools” that work to silence (primarily conservative) speech online and “used ‘government employees to act as sales reps pitching … censorship products to Big Tech.'” The subagency is a named defendant in a lawsuit filed by The Federalist, The Daily Wire, and the state of Texas in December 2023 to stop the federal government’s censorship operations.

In other words, Johnson willingly agreed to continue funding a federal agency working to silence Americans’ speech.

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, perfectly summed up Congress’s latest spending scam following a closed-door Tuesday meeting among the Republican conference, telling reporters: “[Congress] is fundamentally unserious about spending. As long as you have a blank check you can’t shrink government. If you can’t shrink government, you can’t live free.”

But Americans shouldn’t be shocked at Johnson’s betrayal.

This is the same speaker who has time after time after time after time after time funded the Biden-Harris administration’s lawfare and other authoritarian activities, often with more support from Democrats than Republicans. He’s also the same speaker who told us that in no uncertain terms would he authorize more taxpayer dollars for Ukraine without an accompanying deal to secure the U.S.-Mexico border, only to turn around and do exactly that.

“That border fight is coming, and we’re going to die on that hill,” Johnson said during a January radio interview.

Nearly a year later, and conservatives are still waiting for that “fight.”

Johnson’s promises are about as meaningful as the gum stuck to the bottom of a shoe. As he’s demonstrated time and again, the Louisiana representative will fold like a cheap house of cards on any given policy fight at the first sign of confrontation, leaving Republican voters hanging in the wind.

And that right there has been the story of Johnson’s entire speakership. His willingness to further the status quo — even if it means empowering Democrats — has made him the left’s useful idiot. He’s a weak, impotent speaker going along to get along, and as per usual, it’s conservative voters who pay the price.

So, like 1,540 pages of additional BS AND 7 pages of required verbiage then?

This has nothing to do with Johnson. The GOP probably doesn’t have more than 30-40 House members who actually have any interest in fiscal responsibility. They are all about spending billions of dollars in their own districts.

Yep . That way a bunch of money comes back to them in the form of campaign contributions, jobs for family and associates and future investment opportunities.

Another assistant Democrat. I have posted several times that when the Democrats win they smile because they are in control. When the Republicans win the Democrats smile because they are still in control.

The Federal Government needs to be Stocktoned.

July 2012, Stockton, CA became the largest city in U.S. history to file for bankruptcy. The Democrat Party lost every court case they initiated trying to stop it and they took it to the highest court they could. They refused to take the last step by taking the case to the Supreme Court because they knew if they lost that case (they would have!), it would be game over for every Democrat run city and state.

Declare bankruptcy, 50% cut to pay and benefits to all government paychecks, and no Federal worker can receive a retirement check until the age of 62 at the earliest, just like taxpayers.

Trump and his supporters certainly have massive influence over the Republican majority in Congress.

If these kind of bills keep being promised after Trump becomes President, it will fatal to the careers of most Republicans that refuse to reign in spending.

Big topic—good question.

Ask DOGE how they expect to work in the real world of Congressional spending insanity.

This is a repost from another thread.

My commentary is probably more pertinent to this thread.

I don’t believe in Santa Claus and unlike the Federalist, I do NOT believe there are TWO distinct parties in mighty opposition.

Labels and posturing don’t matter, RESULTS do.

The repost,

There is ONLY one party in America and Trump ain’t a member.

For lack of a better name, it will be called the Uniparty.

There are three branches of gubmint and the leaders of these branches number twelve.

Nine in the judicial branch, one in the executive branch, and two in the legislative branch.

The sheeple will tell you that the President and the two congressional leaders currently belong to the same party.

Has anyone read what was supposedly penned by China Mitch and that has come out in the past few days.

Mitch has clearly went public with all we knew to be true.

He and Trump share more differences than agreements when it comes policy.

Common sense tells you they are not on the same page and they are only in the same party because Trump staged a hostile takeover over of the Republican Party ballot slot by winning the primaries and the nomination in 2016.

So what is the purpose of this Uniparty.

The Uniparty has no purpose other than to keep the gubmint from being shutdown.

Ever notice when a shutdown is avoided how both wings of the Uniparty claim victory.

And the sheeple swallow it hook, line, and sinker.

The gubmint is run for the pleasure and profit of those who operate it, nothing more.

Representing the will of the citizenry not frustrating that will was the original purpose of self-government.

The Uniparty is committed to the uncontrolled and unsustainable growth of the social welfare state, the corporate welfare state, and the military industrial complex.

And they are well paid by each entity for their commitment.

Maybe Trump has found in Elon and Vivek fellow compatriots who can help him drain the swamp like Hercules cleaned out the Augean Stables.

I am not confident of that, merely hopeful, which is a characteristic of my faith that is founded upon the righteous will triumph over the evil in the end.

But this continuing resolution like all those before it stinks to high Heaven.

No s**t salesman of either wing of the Uniparty whether it be Pelosi or Johnson can sell it as anything other than what it is.

Just wait because the best is yet to come when the new Congress refuses to fund the border wall.
